As mentioned above if you are trying to differentiate yourself from the cheapo beavertail lift and shift guys, you need a covered secure trailer with a low bed / shallow incline ramps. You don't want to be cracking carbon front splitters of someones 100 grand P+J as that starts getting expensive - speaking of which in terms of running costs start looking in to all the different insurances you need before you get too far in to chewing the fat over vehicles and trailers because you might discover that the cost of insurance makes the whole thing nonviable.

I do this for a living i transport all round the uk and europe im not your usual lift and shift guy i deal with classic and performance

Im going through the transition of beaver tail to 4x4 trailer route i have a iveco beaver tail which is perfect for some jobs but there are now to many fleas on the dogs back in this 3.5 game

The iveco 3.0 has been the best truck ive owned its about to tick over 275k and only had minor issues it has the best in class tow capacity at 3.5 tons. I wanted to use it for moving 2 cars at a time but i cannot justify the operators licence expense you need 12k in the bank atvall times 6 week inspections etc. I will get there in the end

This month ive purchased a isuzu dmax to tow it has a 3.5 ton towing cpacity too they are supposed to be the best out of the lot and ultra reliable choosing is important. so is the unladen weight of the 4x4 there is a stupid rule that if the vehicle is over 2040kg unladen it is subject to a operators license! So some rangers and discos will be over that threshold.

You will find the taco is enough to put off the majority of the 3.5t gang my self included off and the job prices are cut throat you only have to go on these comparison and quote sites to see but it has to be done for my business to progress

Why do you need £12K in the bank for O License? The UK really does have some backwards laws when it comes to towing!

Its one of the terms of the operators licence you have to have this money in the bank or able to raise 12k in a short time scale its show you ha e the funds to maintain recover the vehicle unde4 the licemce conditions

So even if it is only a van and trailer you basicly have to treat it as if you were operating a 7.5t upwards

Only disco commercials, not the normal passenger ones, yes especially in disco 3 & 4 forms they are a long long way over the weights above, as are most big passenger SUV & 4x4 but it's a passenger vehicle, not a dual purpose so still exempt.
