What is the modern era?

From autosport forums Andrea de Cesaris:

Andrea de Cesaris 10 : ALFA-Romeo, mcLaren, Ligier, Minardi, Brabham, Rial, Dallara, Jordan, Tyrell, Sauber.
I remember De Cesaris in all of those teams except for Ligier. I’m guessing he was only there for one year?

And for some reason I’d have put money of De Cesaris driving for Renault, but I confess I might have been getting him confused with Rene Arnoux.

^^. Audi is Sainz’s fall-back if he can’t get into a top team for 2025…

Sainz is a very good driver. Best of the best elite, wringing the very last ounce of performance? Nope, but probably the best of that second tier. Quick enough to keep Leclerc honest, rarely makes a mistake, excellent under pressure, and has the wily intelligence of Alonso at managing a race and maximising his opportunities. His race wins have all been demonstrations of the difference he can make, Singapore last year was one of the drives of the season.

IMO a far better fit for a team with Audi's money and ambition than Hulk. No top tier driver is going to take that risk so it's very obvious that he's the best driver available.
Probably following a similar career trajectory that Ralf Schumacher had when he went to Toyota but I feel Audi will succeed where Toyota failed

One and half seasons. The half was due to him being fired for crashing so often.

This was his penultimate race for Ligier.

Not surprising they’ve gone for the German driver, but on the whole it’s an uninspiring choice, they should / could have signed a better driver.

Bottas would have been the better choice, and he is already at the team!

Bottas cannot race for ****. Even in the Merc he couldn't overtake!

Hulk is way better in average machinery though and tbh if he'd been in the team with Lewis he'd have performed better than Bottas due to his ability to do basic stuff like race and overtake.

Could it be that Audi turn up at the grid with the modern equivalent of a Braun double diffuser rocket ship, and the veteran journeyman Hulk produces a Jenson season? Unlikely, but would be amazing to watch unfold. smile

2 Callum Ilott 205

No, can't be that one...
2 Robert Shwartzman 192
8 Felipe Drugovich 105

Maybe this one?
1 Felipe Drugovich 265
2 Théo Pourchaire 164

There we go, third time lucky, just like Nyck de Vries...
Callum Ilott never won a championship in his life, even though he raced for great teams such as Prema. Drugovich won the Euro Formula Open and the F2.

Schwartzman raced with Prema in F2.

Ilott came 2nd in his second season
Drugovich came 8th in his second season

If Ilott had done a third, he would have won it easily but he wet to (Indycar?)
