Whilst I initially thought this looked good I could never imagine handing over hard earned cash for a Hyundai! I must be the stereotypical brand snob eh. What is the price of the vauxhal GTC? it's a very nice looking piece of kit especialy in metalic green but yes it does sting having to pay so much for a Korean car. I would probably go for something else if i were in the market However because of the 5 year warrenty Hyundais' seem to hold their value. Keep it for 3 years then sell with 2 years manufactureres warrenty. Cant do that with a renault All you guys talking of values drpping to nothing please find me a i40 or an IX35 1.5-2 years old diesel. Cheers. I think you'll find it's a 7 year warranty. Resale values of our Sportage are forecast to outstrip VW Tiguan, and with Audi's old designer on board the range is quickly being transformed from mundane to something a bit more "current looking". Just compare where Kia and sister company Hyundai are going and then take a look at Subaru - next years' Saab, perhaps? And I have no links to the company, whatsoever...

Looks ugly to me but so do most modern cars. I wouldn't be tripping over myself to buy one.

I think the reason for the high initial price is just the pricing strategy, crank the price up to make maximum profit margin off fools that buy things straight away and have more money than sense, then reduce it to make it seem a comparative bargain. I imagine in the next year these will come down in price massively, with the turbo model taking this models place price wise(at which point, incidentally it will be at the same sort of price point as the gt86).
Personally I find it a nice looker, but couldn't cope with the idea of the single rear door, which puts me off, but on the other hand, will be the thing that makes this car a possible competitor with the gt86 for those with family (in turbo form) obviously it will lack dynamically, but it would be much easier for a husband to convince the wife to have something that can make getting the kid/s in the back easier.
Good on Hyundai for this, I might even keep an eye open for one on the used market, should be able to pick up a turbo for about 6k in 3 years, that would make it an interesting prospect

I belive its 7 for kia and 5 for hyundai ready to be corrected but I have been lookign at a sportage or a IX35 as my next work car. I have noticed that resale values are good or not good for me cos I want one for peanuts.

I think some of you guys are being a bit harsh. I saw a black on in the flesh this week and the front end looks amazing, as does the i40. For those of you predicting catastrophic depreciation that will always be true if you get busy with the options list. The market will iron things out and I am sure that Hyundai dealers are more open to negotiation than VW franchises. Next up, this thing drives out the door with a 5 year bumper to bumper warranty, so it makes a certain amount of sense on a medium term purchase. The Koreans build decent stuff. Remember the makers of the Datsun 120Y now make the GT-R. This is a step on the way. When this is 2 or 3 years old it will make a lot of sense. Now we just need them to sharpen up the driving experience.

You say bold and stylish, even distictive...WTF! Saw one the other day - a fugly clash of other cars thrown together with such a clumsy and painfully contrived layout. It is doomed. Citroen front end, Scirooco-esqe profile, stupid Clubman doors and the back end of a van. Then again, Hyundai have always done this with their coupe...remember the 456 knock off which went all DB9 in mid-life fecelift.
New Kia models are flying the Korean flag for design; Rio, Cee'd, Soul, Sportage - all relying on their own strengths and design language. (tho Cee'd SW is love child of v50 and 407 SW so I've blown my own point there, dammit!)

Has anyone ever claimed on these 5/7 year warranties though and has a 7 year warranty ever really been needed for other makes - wouldn't much of it be easily avoidable by fair wear and tear after those periods?

Hyundai already has other small models at a lower price point. This one is strictly for those who will pay extra for style.

I like it, not sure the interior quality can be as poor as described, I tried an i40 from the same company and the interior was Audi-good. Striking design, decent build, long warranties... good luck to them, this deserves to do well

Claimed on a number of minor items on my wifes 07 Getz which we bought new... They never quibble about anything, not like the side stepping European car company warranties. Only down side seems to be, whatever part your car requires is NEVER in stock, car always needs booking in to establish the fault & then re-booking in to replace the component (which is a little wearing when you have told them the fault in advance) I guess they keep overheads low by not holding any stock of parts- to be fair a loan car is always offered & if your car is a Getz the loan car is always an improvement Also, its not a sliding scale warranty like many others, only obvious wear & tear items are excluded (tyres, brake pads, wiper blades that type of thing) even the exhaust is replaced if it fails within five years... (edited to remove a rogue full stop, look out-look out there's always a pedant about)

Sat in one the other day, i found the interior a very nice place to be and of good quality, i find it ridiculous that people will reject a car over slightly worse interior plastics!
Turbos 0-60 time of 8.4 is disappointing though

Turbos 0-60 time of 8.4 is disappointing though Not as ridiculous as rejecting a car based on a meaningless 0-60 time achieved by dropping the clutch at maximum revs. My daily drivers would struggle to crack 10 and I can't recall a single time I thought I was ever seriously compromised.

If a 7 year warranty isn't needed on a manufacturers car, the manufacturer would be able to offer it as a big sales incentive without it actually costing them anything. The fact that they don't speaks volumes.

Does look nice, but it's a classic case of "I could get so much more for my money...". For £22k on the second hand market (which is very much a buyer's market right now) think of the alternatives? If you want a coupe you could get a serious TT for that money. If you wanted a hatchback you could get a Golf GTI or even a decent R32. Even the ultimate coupe is attainable for that cash - the almighty M3!

Been in two of them now.
Tinny, awful ride, feels cheap inside, not that comfy, doesnt handle.
A lot of money for what it is, and still cant see why it has three doors- would 4 have made it any worse/less desirable (if it is) or is it just done as a styling statement.
