Also, why can't any company specialise in anything any more?

It used to be the case that people went to Lamborghini for supercars because that's what they were/are good at, in the same way they go to Land-Rover for off-roaders, because that's what they're good at. It's not about 'brand', it's about engineering integrity. These companies exist because they specialise in something they've gone on to make their names with.
Interesting that you cite Land Rover considering it wasn't a make it was just a model where Rover decided to non-specialise in a single market and build a wider variety of vehicles. Land Rover didn't become a separate entity until the very late 80's early 90's.

What the bottom line in profit margins will demonstrate once this is on sale will be the only justification needed.
How depressing.

But like I said, I doubt this will be made in Italy. The money it makes will be for VW rather than Lamborghini.

So why does it need a Lamborghini badge? What's wrong with Lamborghini being a company that only makes supercars?

Look at Ferrari - they'd never do a thing like this and they have always outsold Lamborghini since the dawn of time.
You seem to live in some deluded world where you can't accept that car makers, that's all of them, are companies that are out to profit.

Also, you try to paint this picture of how wonderful Lamborghinis of old used to be, when that's simply not the case.

That should be easy, just rebadge some dodge or jeep, put a V12 under the bonnet and there you go....

'While Lamborghini has done better under Audi than any previous owner there was clear pressure to expand the product line-up to three models, the current two-car range apparently not enough to guarantee medium or long-term stability.'

So using the Gallardo to make the Audi R8 and using the V10 Lamborghini engine, something previous owners didn't do isn't enough?

Would genuinely love to know what Lamborghini old-hands such as Valentino Balboni make of this thing! Whether they are happy for the company he was part of for so long to make whatever it takes to keep the money coming in, or whether it offends him deeply!
Most people who actually work somewhere tend to be a whole lot less sentimental about their firms products. Especially given that once they finish working on one they start trying to improve or replace it.

I imagine that for a suspension development guy getting an SUV to handle would be quite satisfying.

The interior looks like something out of an under budgeted sci fi movie. Not classy at all.

The exterior looks fantastic. The only problem is, is that I see it as an SUV, a type of vehicle I dislike out of principle. I had to take a step back and imagine that car in a world where the enviroment isn't a problem, and petrol is cheap and plentiful. Suddenly it made sense and looked quite appealing.

I think a lot of people see SUV's in the same light as I do. They have to look rugged and worthy of being tall, otherwise we despise them for the same reasons that many people hate cars in general for.

That is an awesome looking car, truly great. But it's anything but pretty.

Doubt Lambo/Vag care about a few people/'purists' moaning on the internet that the brand has been 'tarnished', or 'not what is used to be'. You can't survive by just making one type of product, you have to expand your range.

People in China, Russia, the Middle East etc that are very rich have money to blow on these type of vehicles. Whether they have more money than taste might be your opinion, they don't give a fuxk, they would rather be filthy rich than have taste, who wouldn't?

At the end of the day, Lamborghini is only one thing, a business, a business that wants to make profit, and will do this by expanding the type of cars they make.

Quite! It's too dismissive to say it's not a Lambo - it is. But it's also a crutch, enabling the company to make some more cash and keep on making ridiculous cars.

If anything this has more of a place in the market than the BMW X5/6, because they make plenty of cash from humdrum saloons etc, there's no need for them to ruin the roads with that. Bentley, Porsche and Lambo need to secure themselves making Cheshire-compatible cars, so let them.
I agree.

Though my heart is mostly with them "purist" fans can sometimes be the worst kind because to them, nothing is higher than "purity" - not even the brand's survival over the long term and its ability to keep delivering the beans.

So, VAG are not happy with offering the Toerag, Cayenne and whatever the latest Audi monstrosity is that's all based upon the same floorpan. They now wish to offer the pointless Lambo and Bently re-bodied version of the same core underpinnings.

Just because someone thinks that a VW passat with nicer interior is worth as much as a decent BMW because they've stuffed an Audi badge on it, does NOT mean that Lambo owners will do the same. Oh hang on, that Bentley coupe is a rebadged Skoda concept car. Maybe some people really will buy it then...

This is stupid. If you’re going to make a lambo wagon than at least go the full measure, and none of this evoque girl stuff. For example, scissor doors are a must. Then it needs a louvered rear window, a spoiler, and air vents where the rear window should be, front bull bars, a bonnet cowel, decent wheels. This is a stupid car anyway I don’t see why people can’t make a saloon anyway. Near where I live there is a big 4x4 rangerover community. Apparently the school runners need to “protect their kids”. And when they say kids they mean single child in the back seat playing xbox. Not only that there is no off roading sites where I live its mildly hilly concrete roads if anything. Its a complete waste of fuel and they all feel the need to use the whole road going around corners whilst doing their nails and on their mobiles. GAhhha it makes me soo angry! They are so unnecessary and Lambo has sold out too far this time.

I not sure about all this "real lambo" talk do people forget this?

And Hammonds recent nonsense review of the Aventador " it doesn't want to kill you there for it's not a real lambo"

fact is times change if they had known how to make the aventador 10 years ago they would of done it...and If they had of known how to make the LM002 of any use at all, they would of been selling Jeeps from the 80's.... so mostly you're all talking out or you're arses
