On the ferry; homeward bound. Watched the N24 qualifying on the TV yesterday evening; there are some fantastic cars entered, including a GT40. The Z4 GTRs are lovely and one took pole position - haven't checked my email to see if I won yesterday's Euromillions yet: £380k ex-factory apparently. I was a bit confused by the lap times though. The pole position car lapped the 'ring in 8:18. Don't Renaultsport Meganes do it that quickly? And the Nissan GTR in 7 something?

The circuit used that you saw was probably the Nords' and GP combined, production lap times are set on the Nordshleife only

Yesterday was GT-86 day for me, courtesy of the home of the manual gearbox. Sort of car that will split opinion, I think. Took a bit to get under my skin but ended up loving it. Poisonally think all this drifty drifty stuff misses the point with this car (though obviously plenty of video to prove it can do it). For me, you enjoy this car like you might an Elise. It's all about the balance and feedback (great steering) and adjustability and compliance and all that b ks. It's really lovely to thread along at 8/10ths. But it's a long, long way from being quick in a straight line. Sub Clio Cup pace in a straight line is the subjective feel. The Box feels like a meaty torquemobile by comparison, I s t you not. Recommend all threadists give it a go and see what you think! Oh, and it's looks great in the metal, genuinely a little bit special, but shame the crappy boot spoiler is compulsory for the Euro cars. Anyway, had easily my best drive this year! They also had these little beauties on hand, but not allowed to drive them.

E60 525D/530D's Manual and Autos
I have an auto 525d sport touring. Doesn't set the world on fire in the performance stakes, and not really one for the mpg conscious. But for sub £8k for a tidy waftmobile I am very pleased. This is my first five, and it does feel a lot more unwieldy than my old 330 sport tourer. But it is a nicer place to steer from, and aesthetically I really like the E61 sport. Still thinking about loosing it and the Caterham for some Smokey back magic though. From what I've read both respond nicely to remaps, so would get that done, other hand 40mpg is easily achievable so that suites me, just fancy somethign wafty to be honest.

Given the current familial thinking, it is obviously coming of that time when said rule will become irrelevent. So I have been contemplating suitable "Daddy Deej" motors and at different price points. You will be unshocked to hear to didnt take me long to start considering a 2+2 Vanq. Which naturally lead onto the S

Any thoughts / advice on this before I commit? http://www.oldcolonelcars.co.uk/index.htmI know the performance won't set the world alight, but that's covered elsewhere. Looks ace for pootling around town in. It's mine! Interior is very very good and it drives absolutely spot on - very tight, no rattles, gearbox is nice and smooth. Performed faultlessly on the 40 mile run home. There are a few more marks on the body than you can make out in the photos, but for the money it'll make a lovely pseudo-classic daily runabout. And Mrs G likes it, so that's a big plus. Anyone want to come for a ride in my little tank?

I'm not much of a fan of the Vanquish from an aesthetic viewpoint, and this picture goes a way to explaining why: Take a load of Jag switchgear, run a silver rattle can over some of it, then throw it at the dashboard and leave it where it sticks. Awful. Ubiqiuity may be the enemy of the DB9 and V8V, but at least the interior and exterior styling of both were resolved when they were launched. The Vanquish strikes me as a development mule by comparison.
