Has anyone ever done a highspeed corner rear end feel with / without the spoiler deployed in a 964 to see if it makes a noticeable difference?
In the way Autocar used to do the lateral G skid test.

Love a bit of 145/146 chat. Here was mine back in 2005, loved that thing and wish 19 year old me never sold it, like many of us with our previous cars I guess. The best spec in my opinion, proteo red facelift 155bhp Cloverleaf with the tan Momo leather love

In many ways I prefer the 145 interior to that of my 147 GTA. There’s a great industrial chic about it, such as the graphic that tells you when a door is left open rather than a bonging noise.
The GTA’s interior is more sculptured in the dash area and around the binnacles, but the silver plastic bits look a bit own-brand Argos stereo and as for the artists formerly known as soft-touch surfaces - it’s like a teenage boy’s curtains in my GTA, foul.
I prefer the stark black scratchy plastic of the 145, more Tonka toy. And of course, the door window cutouts…

I had a minty low mile 8 valve MK3 Golf GTI, such a let down after having had a really early 8 valve MK2 GTI.

And on the subject of ducktails, I'm thinking of getting one for my 996. Bottom edge of my engine lid has started to go rusty where the car has had to live outside since we moved house. Garage build is starting shortly so think I might go ducktail when the car has somewhere cosy to live again

As I understood it the 964 spoiler deployed over 130kph and retracted again below 50kph but this was lowered to 100kph after it was pointed out that the Police in the UK would just be able to prosecute any Porsche driver tooling about with a deployed spoiler.

Probably an urban myth.

Hi guys. The 911 backdate is mine. The rear spoiler only really makes a difference for reducing lift abve 80mph. They tend to get a bit floaty without one at autobahn speeds. It also guides more air into the engine bay which helps with cooling.

There's lots of parts of the car that were picked by me as I wanted it that way, rather than to look like any particular model. I still love the car, but after a 12 year journey with it I feel like it's time to move on. Collecting Cars have been in touch about putting it on their site so it may well go to auction yet.

If I had the budget for a nice aircooled i'd certainly be seriously considering yours! It's hard to fault for my tastes. I would be reminding myself that although it feels like it's a lot to pay, I would 100% end up spending the same amount buying a cheaper a car and then taking years to make it more like your car. biggrin

Mine was a kind of rosso red, no metallic, with cloth. Loved the interior and the feeling of space because of that window 'drop-cut'. I'd love to find a basic boxer engined model.

- We used to think these were the 'worst' one - but now its from the past, I'm not sure it is, especially now its just a car to cruise in, take to a show, park up, enjoy, keep it shiny. Who cares if it understeers more than 4 pot.

- If you remember what these used to cost, it seems like a lot. But its a bona fide modern classic, its survived the early 00s Max Power era unscathed, not been VW scene'd, and has that fabulous party trick engine note.

- As a 1985 vintage, I'm an absolute sucker for dog cock red, shiny black trim, lovely shiny silver lattice wheels... This is the car that ten year old me would look up in the index of Autocar, mouthing "two point eight litres....wowwwww"

I had an 8 valve as well, and as you say it was a bit of a let down. Ok in the corners, that engine was a shocker though.

My 16 valve was an entirely different kettle of fish - much much better.

The ABF engine in the Mk3 16v is a masterpiece. We had one with cams, Supersprint headers and exhaust. Typical Italian import - the oil probably had never been changed, neither had the belt, but it had Supersprint and Schrick cams on it. It just loved revs… Decent chassis too. Not as fun as the Mk2 16v that was its predecessor, but certainly a lot quicker…

I started browsing these for sale here in CH and discovered two variants that I didn’t know existed (maybe they weren’t offered in the UK)
There was a 2.9 VR6 Syncro (I only knew of the 2.8, with the 2.9 being in the Corrado)

And the version I now want, they made a limited edition called colour concept that was either yellow, green, blue, red or black, with matching two-tone interior.

My mate used to borrow his mum’s Estelle and we’d go off driving the green lanes in Barton. One evening we found a canoe (this is absolutely true) and having a tow rope in the car I was towed behind in the canoe around the tracks.

Life was different back then…

We got the colour concept in the UK. We had an accountant with a black one when they were new

The colour concepts were cool.

Very 1990s. Very Max Power, but better execution in comparison to spraying your dash with Folia-tec spray, buying a cheap PU leather gear gaiter and having a saggy leather retrim.

Made the dull looking MK3 a bit more exciting.
