Well, my two penneth for what it's worth! 1st off, I'm no fan of either EV's or Chinese cars, but I have to say, that this is the best looking EV so far.

Price wise, ALL modern cars are too expensive, but when you consider that if you order the Yaris GR with the extra stickers and badges, it cost £60K, I suppose that £55K in today's marketplace is quite reasonable!

However, even Lamborghini's don't have Lambo doors anymore and if it wore a SAIC badge, (which is what it is) we wouldn't even be talking about it! If I was in the market for one, as SAIC are about to launch a new MG6 with solid state batteries, I would wait until they go into this, as they seen to solve most of the problems with an EV!

If you crave a bit more shove when overtaking then it sounds like an electric car would be perfect for you!
I did actually think about that as I was writing it to be fair! thumbup

I saw an Audi E-Tron(the Taycan equivalent) do a load of overtaking moves the other day, and it looked so easy, and I don't mean that in a negative way either. It just blasted past everything, and I've always personally liked that kind of thing for sure. driving
" It just blasted past everything " and then needed plugging in.
This MG has 315 miles of range, the last time MG made a roadster, the MGTF, it had 352 miles from its 11 gallon tank. Nigel and Glenda certainly weren’t dashing for the petrol station after an overtake back then. On the flip side they couldn’t juice it up at their bungalow in Selsy every night…

Fast forward to 2024 and now it’s David and Susan’s time for a sporty retirement run around. They can plug it in at Morrisons and when they visit the grandkids there’s a nice fast charger in the services to top up an extra 100 miles whilst they buy a Bakewell slice from Costa.

They live next to Simon. Simon always spent most of his money on cars, he’s a bit obsessed really. He drives a Vauxhall Monaro because it has a ‘proper’ engine. He thinks electric cars are for mugs and that the CCP will be able to access his ‘private information’ (pron collection). Simon would love to retire like his neighbours and maybe upgrade the Vauxhall to a Lotus Exige.

Sadly Simon’s V8 chariot needs £5k of repairs again; a blown head gasket and a hole in his exhaust. For now he has to take the bus to work. But once a week he trudges out to crank the car over, he doesn’t want the battery going flat. He sits in his driveway, gently blipping the throttle, browsing PistonHeads as he noisily puffs blue smoke across the street. The neighbours all think Simon is a loser. They're probably right.

Well Sarah and David need something to do while they're waiting for it to recharge.

Up until I started buying reasonably quick cars, I could always feel the difference in weight when you were 4 up. I remember my old E61 520d feeling as gutless as hell when it was fully loaded with us and stuff for example.
I once had 4 adults in my old M2 Comp and when going for a quick exit off a roundabout I remember being quietly disappointed at how much I could feel the performance had been dented. Atleast I can’t fit 4 people or anything bigger than a sandwich in my current A110 I suppose laugh
I'm lucky in that regard with the 370Z and Caterham only being 2 seaters as well, plus it is mainly only me driving them on my own anyway.

Although yesterday I was behind a slow moving car just as I got into a national speed limit area(just me and my 8 year old in the car), so I stamped on the throttle in the M4 and it just rocketed past the car in front, and it felt ace to me. I love the DCT for that, and now I have new MPS4S on the rears they will handle full throttle really well too.

The M4 is a funny car at times though, because yesterday doing that overtake it felt really rapid, whereas sometimes I stick my foot right down and I feel like it could do with a bit more shove though, it is all a bit odd really. However I have felt similar to that with a lot of other performance cars I've had over the years though to be fair.
Lee it was probably spinning the rear tyres before as I believe you had got full value from the tread on the last set. I still think you should try a powerful EV though as you do like driving in a spirited fashion. EVs are your secret desire that you won’t try in case you like it. I am smiling as I type this but genuinely try one.

I think that I really need to Mike. thumbup

Plus lets face it...I really enjoy going quickly when the opportunity arises, and I love overtaking stuff very quickly too. So I'd imagine that a fast EV is made for that sort of stuff for sure. driving

Clever retirees pay cash after some other mug takes the hit of the huge depreciation in value of the first 18 months.

Why we are allowing this garbage into the UK is beyond me. This is undermining any chance we have of building cars in the UK. Slap massive tariffs on these imports now!

Why is it garbage ? Looks pretty decent, had a nosey round a friends MG, streets ahead of the ones from ten years ago, really didn’t feel like a poor relation.

We had our chance and kind of blew it. It’s a bit churlish making other countries products untenable through and unequal playing field and I sort of see the point. But are we going to fire up our own MG production line again, start making the ZR again.

Thing is, you start slapping tariffs on, doesn’t always go your way, it’s not that simple as there are then knock ons.

Like Brexit had loads of consequences that weren’t anticipated, good and bad.

All we can do if we don’t like it is buy elsewhere you get one vote, other people have different viewpoints and no qualms about buying Chinese, like the Japanese’s in the seventies they are iteratively improving their offering.

Absolutely, wealth whispers biggrin

And those 'retirees' will be losing thousands per month for their lovely Chinese investment. Fab.

Well, placed my order. Have lived with Mach e electric car for nearly 2 years. A few build quality issues but all sorted by Ford under warranty.
As I head towards retirement the McLaren 540c will be going, no one seems to have mentioned the 7 year warranty with MG. Also the boot capacity is 256 litres more than enough for holiday trips.
I consider the cybester GT that I have ordered, a Grand Tourer more than a drop top sports car.

I did go to the dealers launch when the red car was touring the country it’s more the size of a BMW Z4 and a Jaguar F type than a MX5.

Now if you had read any of the wisdom sts you so despise, you’d know that accelerating an EV converts battery energy into kinetic energy which can then be mostly recovered back to the battery when slowing down again, or used for coasting.
In an ICE car, most of the fuel’s energy when you floor it leaves via the radiator and what little is put into kinetic energy then ends up heating the brakes if you aren’t able to use it for coasting.
Quite amazing that the heavier electric car uses many times less energy than the ICE for the same overtaking manoeuvre.
One day the penny will drop how good EVs are at eliminating wasted energy.
Will it be today?

This is about as much fun as peace talks over Gaza.

It's a car. It will appeal to a few people for a few good reasons and not to others. Nobody is wrong or right.

I don't want an EV but I don't want to pay 62% income tax either. I already have an MX5. The Cyberster could replace it as my two seat convertible AND solve my 62% income tax problem at the same time. I appreciate that is not everyone's situation but it is mine.

I'll take a test drive when they are available.
