Despite not looking sensible, I’d pick the Vette as running costs and long term build quality are both top priorities for me. Can’t actually see that one is for sale/still for sale.

Others all look great as well. A Morgan Plus 8 would make a nice addition to the list. Bargain when you consider their glacial depreciation.

There’s only one reason I wouldn’t choose the Marcos - already got an LM! That Aston is rather lovely, though…

I live Marcus's so fee of the later LM or Mantara are ever on sale and coupe versions are hen's teeth
Redline Sports cars currently has 3 Mantaras for sale and one is a coupe.

They did have a coupe in this colour a few years ago

BMW E93 M3 should have been on this list
V8, sub 15k, reliable compared to this 'affordable' list

Bargain sports cars my arse

I bought a 240bhp Westfield Seight for £12k last year - that's a bargain sports car

TVR Chimeras are available for sub £10k if you look - bargain !

V8 MGB GT and V8 TR7 (conversions) again sub £10k

None of these appeal, or are a 'bargain'.
Agree about the MGB_GT V8 though.

While technically a GT rather than sports car, I'd take a 5.0L XKR over the choices given. The 5.0L Jag supercharged V8 is a wondrous engine. I've had mine over the last 11 years and 211,000 miles. Absolutely reliable, with an $800 pulley and tune, you're in the rarified air of 600hp that would run circles around many of the listed cars. Mine below as it still looks today.

The TVR and Marcos look very dated to me. The Marcos race car was bonkers with an amazing sound and the later TVRs whilst not V8s look much better to me. Still this is Pistonheads so I know the TVR will have plenty of fans.

It does look fantastic - if only they had built some manual ones!

Mr. Tidy,
You know that for my manual jollies, I resort to my De Tomaso Pantera. But the XKR has just been so good, it's hard to walk away.

That would buy a beautiful E90/E92 M3. Maybe the Java green one for sale at the moment. I can't see anything here I'd rather have

By "Bargain V8 sports cars", I presume this list means there aren't any for less that £25k???

They’re bargain V8 sports cars if your budget is 50k. I’d go F Type as that does actually seem like a bargain - the V8s were getting on for 40-50k not so long ago - and the early ones sound ANGRY.

The word bargain doing a lot of heavy lifting, even for PH.
Meaning bargain for the performance and exclusivity and V8-ness surely? Bearing in mind all V8 sports cars are basically an extravagance rather than essential transport choices.

I'd pick an R129 or R230 if I was in for a bargain...

It’s my list smile
Owned the Griff. Owned the SLK. Test drove the ‘Vette (too silly wide for Kent roads, but fair play to the London dealership who drove it out for me). Test drove the F Type, but went for a 4C in the end. V8VR currently on the drive short list.
Not too many yrs ago you could have had my 308GTS on that list, but those price days are long gone frown
As a “relative” bargain, I’d argue you could have a 360Spider on there, at £50k these days they are certainly value!

Interesting! Isn't the 4C actually wider than a C6 Corvette? Left hand drive/visibility a factor?

The E9x M3 are nice cars don't get me wrong, but the engine lacks the "V8ness" for me though. There are times when you're driving it when you don't believe that it has a V8 under its bonnet, because it very rarely actually feels like a V8 if you know what I mean. I'd describe it as a very high revving 4 cylinder VTEC for example, because it doesn't have that synonymous torquey feeling that you usually get with a V8 engine for me.

they're now modern classics, even classic. still have great theatre to them and a good way to enjoy a classic pushrod cross-plane V8. I suspect most owners don't see them in the same light as a modern sports car at all. But then most moderns at that level are rather uninspiring to look at, or sit in.

Rubbish it's just a lazy journo who's written something in 5 minutes looking through the overpriced cars on PH

Most of them aren't even sports cars.

None of them are a bargain

The marcos and tvr have wheel /tyre combinations that mean they can be used on UK roads. The others are totally unsuited to use in the U.K. sadly.
