Who has the best Garage on Pistonheads?
Discussion
I can thoroughly recommend Ecotile. I bought a load of their hidden joint tiles having had a painted floor for 3-4 years it was looking quite tired.
They've made it a much nicer place to work, seem hard wearing, and haven't had much issue with a few bits of oil etc i've spilt. The 6mm thick versions have withstood the car jack a couple of times as well.

Hi for the Chap that was asking about the mats in my garage i got them from E-bay.

And for my ramp i bought mine from here. Great bit of kit and very stable up to 3 ton lift capacity. Not the cheapest of options around but great for small work shops and stores away very well when not in use.

ScottyD, any more info on that car lift, I'm after something like that for my garage.
Me too, would be interested in more info.John.
As for floor coverings, I actually prefer a painted floor over tiles... My mate had the plastic tiles in his garage and he found that any spillages leached through the gaps and made a mess, they were also difficult to sweep and keep clean.
My other mate has just had his floor done with epoxy resin... now that is absolutely fantastic, its perfectly level and flat with no imperfections... its the same stuff they use in warehouses where forklifts are operating so its very durable.
Also, the mistake people make when painting the garage floor is they put the paint on to thick. Its important NOT to have too thick a paint film (particularly with single pack paint)as this skins over and forms a solvent trap, which then takes weeks for the paint film to harden right through. Thats when it lifts when the car tyres are left on it... best plan is to roller it and spread it out as much as you can so it "just" covers. two thin coats, over a couple of warm days are far better than a single thick coat from a durability point of view.

That's a really nice shop, buzzer.
What brand is the lift?
Thanks What brand is the lift?
The lift is unbranded. I think its a Chinese one and to be honest is not the best quality... but as it get used a lot less than a commercial one it should be OK. It is nice and safe however as it has some strong safety locks which click into place in stages as it goes up. If I leave a car on it in the air for any length of time I always drop it onto the safety locks to take the strain off the hydralics.
My mate has recently bought a similar lift, which is actually better made than mine. He got it from Strongman Tools who looked after him well.
Have a look here http://www.strongmantools.co.uk/
I had a chinese built lift in my business garage and it worked absolutely great the whole time. It was slightly lighter use due to the length of time a conversion took but it was well used.
For home garages, the Chinese built stuff is more than adequate.
The only time the more3 expensive stuff is better vfm it is if you are up and down with it 20 times a day every week day.

Has anyone got a 2-post lift in their garage? I can't help thinking they'd be a bit more practical for any garage I might get in the near future.
I thought about a 2 post before i bought mine. Problem is with a domestic garage is the floor has to be sufficiently strong before you can install one, most simply don't have concrete that is thick enough to cope with the stresses bolting on a 2 post can give. Mine was only 2" thick where the post would have gone...The other problem is they take up a lot of room in the garage, installing one in mine would have turned a double garage into a single one...
Then there is the height, most domestic garages are not high enough to make use of a full height lift.
I guess if i had had the height, the room, and a re-enforced floor, I may have gone for one!

Same reasons i went for the scissor lift they take up a lot of room when not in use and height wise it i only have 300mm clear on the top of the cerb on my ramp as well. The other problem is they take up a lot of room in the garage, installing one in mine would have turned a double garage into a single one...

2 Posters are great if you have space and a cheaper option as well.

I think that mobile lift is perfect. I'm off now to measure my garage height. Perfect for moving in to the middle of the garage for work and possibly stores in the roof when not used?BJT said:

I think that mobile lift is perfect. I'm off now to measure my garage height. Perfect for moving in to the middle of the garage for work and possibly stores in the roof when not used?If I ever won the lottery this would be how I’d build my dream garage:
- From the front of the house it would look like a normal double or triple faced garage.
- Once inside, there would be space for 2-3 cars as normal…however at rear of the garage would not be a wall, but another set of electronically operated roller garage doors.
- Opening these doors would reveal a spiral ramp type system (the same you get in some multi-story car parks) which would take you around and down beneath the garage.
- Once under-ground, there would be a huge warehouse area, each area segmented into different car marques, some chairs, a bar and some TV’s.
Then when you have decided which car to drive that day, you could drive up the ramp from the underground warehouse, up into the garage and then out.
From the outside, it would look like a normal double / triple garage was producing car after car!!
Well…..like I say, that would be my ideal set up
Let's hope those lottery numbers come up
