They were being pedantic over the wording for my application as it was titled as a single garage & they were expecting a 2mx4m shoe box. It took 6 months start to finish going through the planning process, very much an eye opener.
I was told my planned 5.5m (by 9.5) garage wasn't deep enough to put a car in. To be fair the conversation didn't last long.
Them - not big enough
Me - err yes it is by quite along way.
Them - oh ok then

9.5m wide by 5.5 deep - so the cars go into/along the 5.5 axis. Still plenty of room.

Mine is 18ft wide and 22 ft like long( garage that is)....plenty enough to get a tiny frogeye and a fat arsed mk 6 Golf in...

It's been restored and over the last 2 years , 3 new sides a new roof and a new door, but it's still the same garage, so not subject to new planning rules, which would halve the size I would be allowed to replace it with.

Acquaintances of mine had a 20 X 12 Ft boat shed on Sydney harbour, built 40 years ago to hold a couple of racing dinghies. It was almost falling down, & if it did they would never have got permission to rebuild it. They repaired it as you have.

Strangely when repairs were complete it was a 2 storey 2 bedroom waterfront flat, with the boat storage taking less than half the lower floor.

They got away with it too.

Just the main door and side door to go, oh, and electricity. Then I'll drill a hole in something on my new workbench biggrin

Thanks. We were allowed to build up to 50m² without planning permission, so it's 7 x 7 metres. biggrin

Great size! And has a proper double width door without a pillar or anything. So much space to tinker biggrin

Here's my poor effort, I would be better keeping boats instead of bikes, it leaks like a bloody sieve. frown

I picked up the keys to my new house this morning, so my garage project will be starting over the next few weeks! As is:

The doors are staying as they are, but the breeze blocks are going white, and the floor is going light grey with Watco paint once I've sealed the floor (and thrown out all the crap!). The stonework at the back is original - and houses the original well and pump which used to feed the barns in my complex - and will be a feature. I'm also going to restore the pump and paint it!

The wood racking is nice and solid, but a bit too tall for my needs so will be cut down to make a workbench. I'll be putting some fluorescent tubes up on the beams, and flooring half of the 'upstairs' for storage. Also going to put tyre racking above the stonework at the back! Can't wait smile

That'll be really nice, if you can I'd stretch to getting the breeze block plastered, it'd make such a difference.

Cosmetically yes, but it might have to be at the bottom of the priority list as the house needs (well doesn't need, but the wife disagrees) a kitchen!

I don't have the best - but I suspect I have the most garages per bedroom.

I recently bought a 2 bed house with garaging for 7 attached to the house and a further 14 detached.

That's 10.5 car spaces per bedroom - can anyone beat that ?
