Now Brother Cake, you know I love you but I am very unhappy with you.
I was due to be in Salz and Kitz during Feb for a lovely skiing holiday that unfortunately I had to cancel due to work.
Posting pics of swanning about those places in a V12 donkey is just rubbing salt in the wounds. Just not cricket old boy frown

What to do brother DeejRC. Work is the bane of all our lives and "needs must"

You're always welcome to come with me biggrin

Never sure how to engage in these threads but have enjoyed following it all. Thanks for taking the time to do it.

I’m driving to Slovenia in a few weeks so the current road trip has been of particular interest. Thanks again. Have fun!

Hi DeuceDeuce

Thanks and have a great trip.
What car will you be in? Have your route planned already?

A different kind of horse power yesterday.
https://istra-riding.com/

I've only been on a horse a couple times before. On a PGL summer camp as a kid, swimming with horses, and a wine tour on horse back. All nose to tail stuff, didn't matter what you did, the horse knew what to do.

This was a different story. The first horse they gave me knew instantly that I was useless and said no way I'm spending 4 hours with that moron! He just took off in the yard! I thought he was going to jump the fence and made the novice mistake of just holding on, trying to grip with my legs and hug his neck. Luckily he refused at the fence, sent me flying and on the deck a little embarrassed and claiming 'im okay' biggrin

Switched horses and it turned into a fun afternoon.

Took the horse to the sea / stone beach, where they drank. Apparently there's some underground fresh water and caves so the water is drinkable at the edge.

I think I'm sticking to expensive donkeys.

Just be careful you don’t accidentally buy a horse (in the unlikely event you don’t know what I mean Google “Kevin Bridges accidentally buys a horse”). Looks like a great trip, Cake. Do you let your passenger do any of the driving as some of your days look pretty long?

Hi WW,

Kevin Bridges accidentally buys a horse is just too funny! A counterfeit horse and two Scottish guys try to speak English biglaugh

It a long story but to make things really quick, I promised a friend to take their son motorbiking. This was a few years ago, he's now 15 and finally my work and his school holidays have aligned. We did a road trip to get here and the rest of the family flew out to meet up in Pula.

So he can't drive but he has driven the expensive donkey / fat chip (on a private road)

Again, a different riding day. This time an Enduro trip around the coast of Istra.

I chose the trials bike because of my arse! Let me tell you that rising trot is a horsey euphemism for serious BDSM!

Another great day

I've now got to plan my route back. Originally I had planned to cross the Stelvio and Umbrail passes but they're both closed
https://www.bormio.eu/en/alpine-passes

Maybe I'll not plan and just see how it goes.

Interestingly the 296 has only 300 miles on it and was delivered 2 days ago! Driver is my hero!
...
Don't 296 engines need running-in / break-in for 600 miles, and then an oil change??
eek

The owner did mention that he was running it in on track.

And he was certainly enjoying it biggrin

I'm 1 up and on a very loose timetable. Just cruising with the slower traffic. Don't know what's going on today but the 599 is getting a lot of attention. Every stop for fuel someone wants to talk about the car, on the road I'm getting flashed and tooted. At first I'm worried something is wrong with the car and it takes time to realise they're just saying "nice car thumbup"

A woman in a ford puma is doing 360 around the car and in my head I can hear the Eagles "Take it Easy"

"such a fine sight to see
It's a girl, my Lord, in a flat-bed Ford
Slowin' down to take a look at me"

Then the window rolls down and a young boy is giving me twist the throttle hand sign so I do a couple of full throttle drive byes to smiles.

Funniest moment is when the border control at Slovenia pull me over to tell me to rev it.

It's a good day

Stelvio Pass is a way point and I want to see how far up the snow gate is, signs on the way telling me it's closed till 15th April.

Turns out, not far up, it's just outside of Trafoi.

Something I'll have to tick off the next time.

I detour over Reschen Pass
https://www.vinschgau.net/en/resia-pass.html

All around it is beautiful and I could stop on every corner for another photo. Road is good but a little busy despite the time of year. It's a little sad to see all the slopes green and the lifts stopped.

Its an overnight in Sautens

Car is telling me it needs a service.

Cold start in the morning the engine is very tappety. Once it's warm it goes away. She's booked into MDL again and Lee tells me it's getting very hard to get the engine oil booster.

The booster is an additive used to maintain the viscosity of the oil at higher temps, reducing the tappety noise

Tim at Opie Oils recommends running a better oil and gives a few recommendations. I plump for Motul 300V 10W60

https://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-227325-motul-300v-le-...

I'm also getting the occasional electrical system failure and I'm hoping the alternator isn't a problem again.

Planning the route to Gründau and I've time to spare. The Eagle's Nest comes up in a search and it's not so far, will also make it easier for me to use the A8, A9 and A3.

Unfortunately its closed for another month

So it's going to be Disney instead

My vote for:

Most complicated junction

Only took a wrong turn twice. At least the first wrong turn took me to a Shell petrol station

My vote for:

Most expensive petrol Eni

And only 98! Shell V-power 100 is nearly 60 cents cheaper.

I think Spa 102 is actually more expensive but I can't remember

Leaving Sautens and it's another beautiful view around every corner

There's a temperature inversion and fog in the valley but as we go over the Fern pass it opens up to more spectacular views.

Road is fast but traffic not so I meander with the traffic and stop for photos

The castle that inspired Disney is epic. There's loads of walking but not enough time to explore. Another one to do again
