I just don’t understand why some people are so keen to not have a front number plate. Why give the police a reason to stop you?
ruins the look on certain cars that weren't designed with it in mind, also it's rare to get pulled over for it and most owners can afford the 1 ticket a year

Not quite the same but riding bikes I stick to the standard plate now, stops an obligatory pull by the police, then the subsequent inspections.. exhaust, tyres, visor etc.

Never understood why supercar owners think they're above the law.

Poor show by the designers really - it's no secret that cars are supposed to have a front number plate. Yes, the rules vary from country to country, but surely you design the car with that in mind.

Punishment really should be withdrawing the entitlement to use that plate. Either that or nailing one to the front bumper smash

Laws that only attract fines are only there to keep the poor under control.

If I had the money to run a Lamborghini I'd probably run it without a front plate. Maybe pay £300 a year in fines?

PisstakeHeads is a far better name for these forums.. Strange what being exiled from society for 18 months does to ones empathy towards our fellow human beings.

No front plate = £100 NIP, no points and small change for a lot of supercar owners.

No insurance = unknown financial risk in event of accident so I don’t think the 2 are comparable.

Things may be different here in the US to the UK, but the attitude test starts before the pull. For the most part, the police will not pull you over for no front plate on a nice car. But, if two similar cars drive passed the police at 20mph over, one is going to get stopped and the other probably isn't.

That is why I asked the dealer to put a front plate on.

h0b0 is making the point I was trying to make but doing it better. It’s not the £100 fine that would bother me but winding up the police in the first place. I’ve tended to find that if you’re polite and reasonable they treat you that way back so why piss them off by not having a front plate?

My experience of 4000km over three years with no front plate (in and around London) is that the police aren't pissed off off or wound up in the slightest. I never got pulled over once.

Don't forget the towing and impound fees.

But going back to the original question. Why would you need to buy a bracket for a car that must have passed the UK type approval requirements before it was sold?

not above every law, if you don't have insurance you'll get pulled over as much as anyone if not more but yes, police aren't that bothered about not having a front plate on a supercar as oppose to a 320d or something which seems suspicious when it doesn't have one.

Not insuring is a criminal offence.

Hi guys,

I am looking for front number plate solutions for my Huracan Performante after being pulled over by the police and given a NIP.

I have seen a solution on a post on pistonheads but it doesn't say where the bracket is from. Anybody any ideas?

https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=17...

I am not keen on the italian supercar solutions as it sits very low on the car.

Also, are we allowed to run a smaller front number plate?

Thanks for any help smile
My Perf came with a bracket but I had a smaller plate made up by www.pimpmyplate.com
Never been stopped.
I always think that a Lamborghini is a 'come and catch me' call to the BiB so why antagonise them?
Generally, they are decent people doing their job imo.

The Ferrari in that story had no insurance, and hence the tow.....

The Huracan Performante doesn't have a suitable vertical surface at the front upon which to mount a plate, which is why this question comes up repeatedly. When I bought mine the dealership gave me a bracket and left it up to me to either lash the bracket onto the car with gaffer tape(!) or drill holes in the car for a more robust attachment. It's hardly surprising that neither of these options are attractive to owners.... I'm aware that some owners are happy to risk an occasional £100 fine and don't bother with a plate at all, but the dealership also informed me that many owners choose to stick the plate horizontally onto the front 'bumper'/diffuser; given that the relevant UK legislation "requires the plate to be fixed vertically or, where that is not reasonably practicable, in a position as close to the vertical as is reasonably practicable" I guess it's down to the discretion of the Police Officer to decide if you're making an effort to comply.

I do have a grudging respect for the Italians, when you know the law will never require a larger front plate as it would ruin the look of some of their most beautiful designs. They just wouldn't...

Absolute rubbish just google “no drill license plate performante.”

I used to be in your terrible camp of excuses but just can’t be bothered with the hassle anymore.

And without a front number plate it will automatically fail it's MOT test.

slightly off the focus of the thread title but: if its £100 fine for having no front plate or an otherwise non-compliant plate, is it also £100 for a complelety incorrect plate?

e.g. If my name's Jon could i just stick JON1 (assuming no other car usually carries that plate) on my ford fiesta which usually bears a typical 2010 plate and pay the £100 as that would be much cheaper than buying the JON1 plate?
