Hello all

Time i started a small build thread for our new work horse / daily drive.

We've had it just over 3 months now and I'm still over the moon with it!

It comes with the usual Sportline factory options such as the heated captains, Kenwood 520DAB etc, additional include the superb DSG box, parking sensors front and rear, cruise control and of course the candy white paint / gloss black mirrors + roof/ Satin black 18's.

I gave it a full protection detail when i had it, so it is now fully protected for the duration of winter and is a breeze to keep clean, which is handy being so big and so white.

Plans for now are:

>Black Rear bumper protector, front wind deflectors and black B pillar wrapped

>Insulate & Carpet the rear walls and ceiling (the standard plastic/rubber floor is fine!)

>Audio upgrade (so pants for such an expensive van) which will include x2 new components front and somewhere in the rear, and a small 6 or 8'' sub underneath each captain chair powered by a nice amp, for quality over outright loudness. Considering a full Focal and Genesis set up similar to our previous X5. Id like it fully sound proofed/ deadened aswell.

>Ceiling lights- some sort of nice LED strips or spotlights

>OEM led DRLs for front bumper & Bi Xenon headlights

>Fully wrapped in our shops branding (which is a shame as i love the candy white!)

First addition:

Anodised Metal bumper protector, in black. The fit is perfect and it goes brilliantly with the black and white theme.

…And then came the slightly larger additions!

It was booked in to B&B Audio Concepts Cardiff for some high end audio and visual upgrades.

The goodies to go in: Focal PS165 Flux components and tweeters (released only a few weeks before!), Genesis Amp, 13'' Drop Down HD rear screen, Pioneer Reverse camera, insulation, and lots and lots of Dynamat:

Pics of the Dynamat:

Roof Insulation + Wiring

Doors Dynamatted, and Focal PS165 Flux Series components in, along with the tweeters in the dash. These sound unbelievable.

Rear panels then insulated over the dynamat, and then carpeted, Retaining original poppers so panels can be removed should they need to. Pods made for Focal 6X9s too.

Rear all done, and 13'' HD Drop down monitor installed for rear passengers

Amp rack installed on sliders under passenger captain chair housing the Genesis Monoblock. Drivers chair houses the 6'' JL Audio 6W3 Subwoofer

Pioneer Reverse Camera installed

Front OEM VW DRL LED's panels colour coded, holes drilled for the parking sensors, and fitted. they work as factory, I.E they dim when indicators or side/dipped lights are turned on etc.

And finally, side and rear windows 'prestige' tinted for a good compromise of privacy and visibility.

…And breathe! sorry for all the Pics. thats it so far, Van is more or less how we wanted it for now. few little niggles and additions to add in the new year before thinking Stage 2 remap with Forge intercooler.. a lot of work to see 220bhp safely mind.

Appreciate all comments.

Very nice van.

Is it used for work or just family/everyday stuff?

What power is it standard?

I used to hoon the AWD model of these round the alps. Incredible work horses and very fun in the snow. I still don't entirely understand how they drive so well.

I plan to get one in the future as the increase in family and surf gear means I either need to leave a child or board at home on my surf trips.

Generally its the everyday famiy wagon, Howver we do use it for our shops for small furniture deliveries i.e coffee tables and the like. It'll be a handy advertising tool once its wrapped in the company liveries too!

its all standard at the moment, 180bhp/300lb/ft Bi Turbo 2.0 Tdi. Certainly shifts for a 3.2 tonne van and is able to mock most every day cars!

We did consider the 180 in 4 motion guise, and whilte capable the added weight of the 4wd system compromises MPG significantly. Plus i love the look and additions of the sportline!

Your correct on drivability, for a van it is still very car like in envrioment and its charctersisics.. as far as vans go anyway.

Defo recommend a T5. Made every day tasks so much easier..and parking isnt an issue like most believe it is!

Cracking looking T5, the interior upgrades look exceptional

One of my biggest regrets was selling mine 2 years ago

Do you have more seats which have been removed for that photo? Otherwise it strikes me as unnecessarily impractical as a family car!

Edit: just saw the rear seatbelt in one shot. As you were!

Ha, the seats where removed for the insualtion and audio install.. The second row has a 2+1 seating arrangement which fold forward and are also on quick release clamps to take them out for big loads.

we thought the same till we it arrived. the ''im not driving a van'' attitude soon changed when it came and we started using it!

The transporter replaced our trustly old E53 4.4 X5.. we initially looked at X5M's but realised it would just get ruined again with stock and what not, hence the need for a nice van that looks the biz, is practical and a good family wagon. And it has a fair bit of poke in it aswell conisdering its size hah.

no updates as of late! just a few smaller plans that id like to do over the next few weeks:

Paint callipers Red (when the van was new last sumemr the silver callipers discoloured very quikcly because of the brand new pads, so annoying!)

the two chrome strips on the front grille vinly wrapped in red, 'GTi style'

Retro fit bi xenon projectos into headlights & Lamin-X front lower fogs in yellow.

The van will be put through its paces weekend after next, when we take it to drive over from here (Welsh Valleys) to The Geneva MotorShow. can..not..wait and haven no doubt the wagon will eat the miles up no problems at all.

just a tad worried the van doesnt come with a spare wheel, i need a minimim of a 17'' spare wheel to go over the front callipers. the hunt begins.

not much has happened with the van, its been driven, cleaned, driven, cleaned..you get the picture!

the front tyres where replaced a few weeks ago with Hankook Ventus V12's and they perform fantastic. so much better than the Continental cack the vans came with as standard.

only real update worth mentioning cosmetically is fitting my pop's plate onto the van (his name is Arif!). Their legal font pressed plates which i had made at GTi Internationals from one of the trade stands.

So far so good! I've ignored the retrofit headlights route as i feel the halo rings the guy offers look a bit...poo really.

I've found 'replica' xenon units for the t5.1, which have almost identical LED layouts and have projectors installed ready to accept a nice HID kit for the closest thing to factory xenons. at £500 their pricey but better than £2k+ than genuine xenons are still commanding..so this is something id like to get fitted sharpish for winter!
