Ideal for 'Festival of the Unexceptional', although it might be a year too new?
Seems too nice to go full Bangernomics on.
It's a 2000 on a W reg. I got the year wrong in the original post (now edited) Seems too nice to go full Bangernomics on.
Mechanically it'll get whatever it needs. Cosmetically.... Well it's the wifes car
Pulled the focus out of the garage for the first time in a month this morning.
Its MOT expired last month so we put it in the garage until I could get around to sorting it. I've been working 6 nights a week so it got a little forgotten about.
It started up the first time of the key, zero hesitation. I let it run for a little while and gave it a quick once over to see what it will need for MOT on Friday.
Just needs the rear fog light bulb changing and some new number plates
obligatory stbox picture.

Passed the MOT with two advisories.
Nearside Front Brake pipe corroded, covered in grease or other material (1.1.11 (c))
Offside Front Brake pipe corroded, covered in grease or other material (1.1.11 (c))
I've booked that in to be sorted.
Wife complained about a "metal dragging noise"
Yep. That'll do it.
A bit of a pull removed the heat shield from the exhaust. Problem solved.

The mighty focus was doing ok with no real issues.....
Until the wife forgot to tell me that the rear passenger wheel had been rumbling for a little bit and when asked why didnt you tell me? "Turning up the radio made it go away"
If you grab the wheel at the top and bottom it moves a good half an inch - the same side to side. Its now parked up waiting for our mobile mechanic to have a slot available to get it sorted.

Loved my mk1 estate. It owned it for 10 years and the only journey it didn’t complete was when the coil pack started to break down and I elected to get it towed rather than risk the cat. If I’d been in the middle of nowhere without phone signal then I’m sure it would have got me home.

Without a doubt it would have. Its almost as if it was a deliberate design by Ford I have just scrapped my 2005 red mk 1 focus 1.6 flight after 10 great reliable years, age had caught up with it but mechanically it was bang on. It needed a rear subframe, inner rear sills and 1 outer sill for its next mot. I paid £700 for it back then, i'm genuinely gutted it has gone. Scrap man gave me £240 for it. On a brighter note i have just brought a 2004 red mk 1 focus 1.6 flight with a genuine 45k miles on the clock, as the first one was so good it made sense to buy another. Same car but with 80k miles less.

Out of curiosity, how much did you pay for your "new" one? Im currently secretly (not telling the wife until its tucked away in the garage) looking for a mk1 2 door with a manual box for a bit of a project. Prices seem to be on the up for them. Hi mateIt was up for £2000 for a while and the price dropped to £1200 in January, i got it for £1100 in the end. MOT history is perfect really, just advisories for cracked tyres due to lack of use, mot is up October. Some mk1s are still being advertised for up to £4000
Its now back on the road.
Old bearing was properly mullered.
Weve had issues getting local garages to work on the car, they either just refuse saying that its not worth repairing/maintaining due to its age or they just quote extortionate prices knowing that we wont pay it.
The mobile mechanic we used was great and it ended up costing us a very reasonable £110.

I disagree, it is worth maintaining IMO, Mk1 Focuses are getting thin on the ground now. Lovely looking car OPOld bearing was properly mullered.

We should be ok now we have a mechanic that isnt only willing to but actually likes working on the thing Car is booked in for a service on the 15th April.
New problem though.
The wife came into the living room yesterday... "the key for the car will be ok in the washing machine right?"
The key no longer unlocks the car on central locking Still starts the car so thats something
Took the key to Timpsons - Very nice chap stripped the key down, cleaned it up, replaced the exploded/water damaged battery and tested it on his little tester thingymajig. It worked on that but he did mention that the key might need programming to the cars central locking again.
Still not unlocking/locking the car on the button - now googling how to program the key for central locking.
If I cant get it to lock/unlock on central locking again, so be it.

I'll bet that it's the cleanest key that the Timpson's fella has seen in a while....Car is booked in for a service on the 15th April.

And the technical term for that wheel bearing is 'fked'
All working again.
Key in turn to position two four times within ten seconds and the car bleeps to acknowledge its in pairing mode.
Key out of the ignition - press lock or unlock button. Youll hear the car lock/unlock.
Key back into ignition and into position two - itll beep again. Job done.
Piece of cake.
Wish my van was this easy to work on

Had Mobile Mechanic back out yesterday to do a service on the old thing.
Oil, Oil filter, Air filter, Fuel filter, spark plugs and a top up of all fluids.
He loves working on it and says its the cleanest mk1 focus hes seen, says that with it being the silvertop engine its indestructable.
Currently on 74,480 Miles.
Nothing to report - just needs a good clean.
