its a ally fuel tank, its mostly tube frame apart from the inner sills are steel, the roof and rear quarters. im gonna take a mould off all them after the first season and make them in carbon. we made all the panels inhouse, we had to take moulds off a rsr for a customer and i thought id use them on the cayman. we got some 2012 panels soon though for the same customer, i wish i had of waited now. the front wings are carbon, as is the rsr rear blade. the doors are fibreglass as are the sills and rear quarter extensions. its a 2007 hollinger, i cant remember the ratios, richard chamberlain uses the same box in his all conquering car, im gonna ask his advice on ratios because we are both racing at spa this weekend coming. paul mclean used to use one as well in his gt2 evo. i think they are geared for about 170/180mph. my old turbo box felt like it would do about bloody 220mph which is no good at any circuit! anything is gonna be better geared than that and hopefully as strong

mark,
thanks for the additional info. interesting indeed, ive seen a few cars similar to this over in the US, again tube or mainly tube frame but most run 997 Cup front ends etc. this looks nice with the bigger stuff.

the 2007 Cup box has nicer ratios (in terms of the Cup platform) however it was the gaps between each gear that had me asking rather than the total gearing. the rev drop between each gear is about 1500rpm in the 997 Cup with an 8200rpm shift, at lower revs the difference is less and it can make it tough work with turbo engined cars. theres a seriously large amount of gear options available to plop into these though so easy to customise though.

i havent got any good pics from underneath, ill get my cousin to take some wednesday when he comes to go to spa. my phone is crap you wouldnt tell whats what with any pics off that. my dads just told me all the panels i thought were fibreglass are dylene with epoxy resin. you can make the panel 1 layer which is obviosly lighter than 2/3 layer glass and still have the strength of 2/3 layer glass. the bootlid and front bumper are made from this as well. the rear bumper is oe but cut out as shown in the pics.

thats food for thought on the ratios as well i hadnt thought of this.

im in the interseries race in my old 928 gts, i was 5th overall last year behind some caterhams but won my race the future classics, might need some rain again to beat the high powered cars like the 930 turbo.
what car/team are you going with h?

Amazing project Mark. I believe I was next to you on the grid at Silverstone last year, have to say your 928 is one of the most amazing sounding cars I have heard on track.

Martime blue S2. More recently seen mating with the armco at Brands.

She is currently down the road from you in sunny Saltley being rebuilt by the Eacock clan.

kevin came over a few weeks ago for some carbon 944 doorcards i think. what are you out in at spa?

heres the engine before it went in the car

same old twm throttle bodies with carbon plenums. gone for k26s this time because im hoping a bit more lag will be more usable the 24s spooled up to quck for the level of grip. thats the theory anyway lol

With the engine that you are using - in the mid engine layout instead of rear engine layout, have you had to have an adaptor made for the gearbox?

Awesome project. Looking forward to seeing some good video/audio recordings!

We are off with the Caterhams in the interseries race. :-). Although, I'll be racing in the monoposto/F3 cup. I think you'll be fine on the rain - the weather looks shcoking, hope its wrong.

My race schedule will give me plenty of time to watch you guys - looking forward to it.

Hi Mark, I am not doing anything with CSCC this year, entered the PCGB Championship instead. The crash at Brands took a big chunk out of my budget though so hopefully the late summer run in will be kinder to me. My car needs a FG badge panel and wing btw, if Kevin hasn't got it already expect the call any minute, lol.

i think the warranty is null and void now!

im on mich pilot cups as well dave, people rave about toyo 888s but after 30 minutes they are sliding about.the michelins are ok in the wet but if it hammers down you aquaplane down the kemmel straight which is a bit hairy when flat in top gear. im hoping for mildly moist as they say on the top gear test track!

kevin might of got your s2 panels njh, i wasnt there last time he came over so im non the wiser mate.

ah the gearbox, this could have its own thread. because ive spun the engine 180 degrees i thought id turn the diff through 180 degrees and it would work, and i wouldnt have 6 reverse gears! we turned a 915 box upside down in a 961 replica race car of my dads in the 80s and there was room to turn the diff round in that. that was to get the drive shafts straight as the car had real tall goodyear group c tyres and made the shafts at a terrible angle. on the 997 cup box the casing isnt big enough to turn the diff so i turned the box upside down, then came the next problem, the 4 mounting holes arent quite in the same place. the top two are 20cm apart and the bottom two are 21 apart or vice versa and there wasnt enough material to open up the holes to fit. so i had to tig some ally off another box on.
then ive had to move the oil pick up and outlet in the box that the oil pump for the box uses because the bottom of the box is the top and tops the bottom, the list goes on! .ive got 3 spare boxes though 2 with no diffs though for when this box plays up. sorry for rambling, i could talk about this car all night lol
