Twin scroll means that the turbo has two parallel inlets for the exhaust gas. (In a 4 pot two cylinders feed each of the two turbo exhaust inlets.) It helps to keep the exhaust gas pulses moving faster, and improves spool up.
Thanks!

Interesting stuff...

Still not convinced on the F30 looks from the front.

OP I did a similar move a couple of years ago, except I went from a 335d to a 118d, it didn't last terribly long, the fuel economy wasn't great in the 118d and the lack of grunt irritated me, however it was capable enough for SWMBO that drove it everyday.

Debadging is a must on a BMW IMO, with exception on ///M cars

Looks good and pretty easy on the eye, my only problem is the size the new 3 and 5's are huge.
Are these cars being made with the americans in mind ?

Yes, and the Chinese who like larger cars. If it's too big, there is always the 1 coupe.

I'm not really sure who is daft enough to buy a 1 Series Coupe these days.

We've now got an almost entirely refreshed F 1 Series range. F20 1 Series, F30 3 Series, F10 5 Series. Lovely. Yet sitting amongst them is the old 1 Series Coupe with the same basic interior wsa the original 1 Series from 8 years ago. Why would you want to spend £30,000+ on something like that this close to the end of its life? It strikes me as a completely daft waste of money.

bks!!!

Back in my box regarding the twin turbo!!!! I shall now go and tell everyone is not a twin and blow them away with my impressive knowledge of the twin scroll thingy!!!

BMW did say it was a twin!!!

Seats are not too bad, miss the sports seats but over a hours drive they are ok.

Still impressed with the power considering its low on power.

It's a lease through work so I don't take hit on depreciation etc.

Assuming similar cost, I would buy a fully-loaded run-out special over a brand new model any day of the week. As much as anything, you have seven-odd years worth of refinements and bug fixes, and they seem to hold resale value better as well.

Thanks for posting that, there does seem to be a lack of F30 discussion on PH and I'm very interested in experiences as I have a 320d on order as a CC too. Yours looks nice and I can't understand why so many people are negative about the new F30 design. Looks are subjective I guess though.

How hard was your de-badging decision? I'm considering it as I actually like the back without a badge but of course it gets seen as trying to hide the fact it's not a 335 regardless of why you do it.

Does anyone else have an F30 now or awaiting delivery, maybe there should be a dedicated thread for pics and stuff?
I also have a 320d on order as CC car - for when I return to the UK in July.

I mostly avoided the temptation of the options list, just metallic grey paint and xenons. Personally I'm not interested in debadging - on this one it would be irrelevant since it's got unique wheels being the ED!

I like it in general but I'm really not sure about the random bits of chrome everywhere.

Really liking the F30, I'm due a Merc C220 Coupe at the end of the year but would much prefer one of these

There is no run-out-special 1 Series Coupe. It's got well over a year left in production, its the same trim range they've had for a while

I like the overall appearance of the F30, looking forward to seeing the coupe.

However, I dislike the styling of the nav screen in the centre console. I mean, what were they thinking? It looks like it's just been "plonked" on last minute.

Really wish they'd thought about that a bit more.

I couldn't really afford to go mad on the options list, it's a bit cheeky really - 400 quid for folding seats as an example. Not split, actually just to have them fold at all.

I've gone for the grey as well and afraid I did pimp a little with the 18" wheels. May make the ride even firmer especially with the run flats but I'm used to it as I had 18s on my E91 (I think that's the designation) coupe before my current car, which is also set up not to waft. Fingers crossed it'll all turn out alright, I'm stuck with it for three years regardless eek

Still, can't beat the BiK for a CC, even the non ED models.

yeah but no doubt in the last few months there'll be some nicely decked-out Sport versions at slightly reduced cost....

Having watched the BMW section for a few weeks now no one seems to have written anything about the new F30 3 series. I figured it's time to correct this.

I have had the car for a week now, covered 650 miles so far so thought i'd pass on my thoughts about BMWs new 3 series.

I've gone from an E60 535d M sport to a work provided (green scheme) 318d SE in luxury trim spec.

I had a budget in mind and having looked at over 70 different cars i settled (beer induced) on the 318d. The 320 was around £50 more and as i only have the car for two years it made sense.
Was the 318d cheaper to lease than the 320d ed?

You reminded me of an old neighbour who, during winter, put salt under the front wheels of his new 3 series a few years ago, and wondering why he still can't get off his drive. Very amusing to watch hehe

Did you look under the bonnet yet? Can you see much past the plastic?

I'd be interested to know also as I'd always thought the 320d ED leaves the 316d and 318d redundant.

Only in terms of company car tax.

A few prices from our company scheme, all pre-tax:

3 Series Diesel Saloon 316d Es 4dr £439.03
3 Series Diesel Saloon 316d Se 4dr £440.97
3 Series Diesel Saloon 320d ED 4dr £448.00
3 Series Diesel Saloon 318d Se 4dr £465.50
3 Series Diesel Saloon 320d Se 4dr £486.02
3 Series Diesel Saloon 318d Luxury 4dr £505.05

The full fat 320d works out an extra £50 a month out of pocket, for a 40% tax payer taking into account the BIK, over the 320d ED. The 320d ED also works out at £23 a month cheaper than the 318d SE. So on our scheme it's a no brainer really...as long as you don't mind the little wheels smile
