fatboy69 said: I assume that you have never met Mr Fogarty - as without wishing to start an argument how have you come to the conclusion that he is a t**t? Technically, I didnt say he was. I merely said Bayliss wasnt. But if youve taken even a passing interest in bike racing in Britain in the last 15 years, you couldnt help but be bombarded by him. Or his videos. Or his "Carl - ahm fookin gret, everywoon else are shiiite lad - Fogarty" books. Or his half-baked race team. Or his criticsm of everyone he ever employed and may need to again. I'm sure if you're a fellow wealthy Yorkshire-man, you'll be big mates. But he has deliberately cultivated the persona of a contraversial-for-the-sake-of-it, outspoken t t. And that's mainly what brought me to the conclusion. Great racer? Most certainly, with the right bike. Great bloke? Not for my money. Does he care? On the contrary, I get the impression he revels in it. So he wont mind me saying, will he?

I do beg your pardon Sir? You appear to be enunciating some form of foreign language with which I am totally unfamiliar...

If foggy had been on the V5 and ridden it i'd expect the price tag, but not for a bike that only bares his name all be it no1 in the limited run!
thats quite weird to me too, how didnt Foggy get the 1st one off the line, given that its his special edition?

Making a statement that "it's the bike that wins the championship, not you". Honda had the same attitude with V. Rossi, so he moved to Yamaha. As for comments about CF's personality, I think it speaks volumes that he's attempted to get 2 or 3 teams off the ground in the last few years (I think he was linked to an MV Agusta WSB team, an RSV4 team, and a MotoGP squad) and all of it has come to nothing. That says to me that very few people within the 2 wheel racing world want to deal with him.

Foggy's somewhat of a childhood hero of mine, never had the pleasure/displeasure (delete as appropriate) of meeting him so cant cast judgment on the person he is/may be.

Love to have more money than sense, turn up with a jerry can of fuel and ride the thing out of the showroom just cos I can. Bit like James May buying the collectors train set and giving the box of the never used set back so he could use it !!!

Not in anyway saying that he wasn't responsible for his championship wins, merely that Ducati may have got the hump. Take for example Casey Stoner. I'm not a fan, but none of the other Honda factory riders have won the championship and the 2011 bike wasn't that big a leap in technology. He just rode it better than the others. The problem for Foggy was that he got a reputation for being a bit too demanding. What self respecting championship contender wouldn't be. I seem to recall though that he indeed did have problems finding financial backing (even though other non factory teams did), but also his demands for factory backing were not agreable. I would also add that as most of the financial backing for motorsports comes from Europe, they tend to back European based / managed teams over a UK team. A difficult situation to overcome regardless of your racing pedigree.

thats quite weird to me too, how didnt Foggy get the 1st one off the line, given that its his special edition? My understanding at the time, is that it was Hoss Elm, the owner of Moto Cinelli who were the UK Ducati importer at the time; who dreamt up the 'Foggy Rep' idea to get Ducati around the 200 minimum frame and crank case homologation issue, and so he got number 1, and Fogarty got number 2...I'm not sure how many hands no1 has been through since, but it's been a bit of a media tart bike since 'birth' and had a few different price tags over the years. I would agree it's overpriced in the normal scheme of things; heck you can buy a mint foggy rep, and ten mint 916 BIPs for the same money, but hey you only need one flush buyer that can't live without it to have £40k+ in the bank, so I cant fault the seller for trying!! Zero miles RC30's fetch late teens to early twenties, I would say number 1 foggy rep is worth £20k, more if foggy was on the V5...and that can be arranged easily for a couple of grand... I dont agree with the comments regarding people who have bikes as ornaments; it's his bike, and (for me) a far nicer work of art than any £6 million oil painting!

Did you ever see the Grand Designs with the bloke that had a 916 hanging on the wall? Once saw a program on Foggy that showed his house, he had the bike up on a plinth in the hallway. Would of thought the one with his name on the V5 would be worth more to a collector, irrespective of number.

sprinter1050 said: GOOD LORD ! It's Beemer-5 everybody Glad to see you're still living & breathing. Much water under many bridges since you last posted. Remember CastrolCraig ? But I guess you've been reading our corner of PH anyway. Welcome. Hi and i hope you are well. I spend 2-5 months a year in California now, sprinter1050, so don't bother much about forums. I prefer to be actually riding motorcycles and driving cars than talking about them, nowadays, as you have, indeed, noticed! I did actual post a few times the other week to support (the better and more powerful of the) modern diesel cars against dieselphobes, but yep, aside from that i have been spending much of my time on the sunny and empty Routes 2, 33, 166 and 247. :-) I coach badminton and kickboxing out there to keep the pennies rolling in and the wheels rolling round! Take care. The Panigale 1199 will be based in La Jolla and the KTM 690 stays in the UK.

Back to the above, an immaculate Ducati 999R went for $18,000 in San Diego last month and that is a much finer bike than the Foggy thing. £14,000-ish for an awesome machine, also collectable in time, without question. On the subject of Carl himself, Barry Sheene called him a jerk in public and, great rider that he was, Carl was a bit of one, if we are honest.
