Pay someone from the tracking company to come down with there little blip machine
and call the old bill at the same time

Bingo
Why pay again? It is worth more to them in publicity if they came and help recover a stolen bike. If the cops got fingerprints off the bike to catch the scrotes they can have it printed up in MCN, and the phone would start ringing constantly...
Good point smack, just thought it might swing them a bit more
Beer money and all that.

This, the prospect of reading how much they have assisted in recovering is a great incentive to purchase. The more recovery = greater success of the system working.

I'd be going with a few mates and a sledgehammer if I was certain where it was. Yeah you can claim but it'll just drive premiums up, these scrotes seem to think its ok because you can just claim and everything will be fine. Assemble a posse and go and get it back.

These devices use GPS and a sim card to SMS (text) the lat long to the user or a server where its then plotted on a map. No benefit in getting closer to it.

If it was me, I'd be breaking into both garages to find it! Can't believe you know where it is!

Ring the cops and say you found it like that and they might want to come and have a look at the other stuff.

Obviously make sure your prints aren't on the broken lock etc wink

Sorry for the late response everyone. Thought I should update.

I put some serious thought into going round tonight to the point that the car was loaded up ready (not telling you what with), even drafted a message to post on here detailing the location and a suggested time........... Then I had a phone call from the control centre (after I have been badgering them every 30 mins all day!)and reality hit.

It basically comes down to this.

Every single copper who has driven past and searched the location (apparently there have been multiple visits, even if its just to show face) have said the same thing namely lets crack the doors and worry about it later!

Problem is they are prevented from doing so by policy (I didn't get her to specify if it was legal or just guidance#). If they knew for certain it was a specific garage then they could do it as it is crime in progress (or something like that), lets say the alarm was sounding or it was a single garage in the middle of a field! However multiple doors means they could be accused of just kicking them in and hoping for the best. It isn't helping that the garages aren't owned by the council (who tend to be more sympathetic to fixing the damage later) but are privately rented out which is making getting the owners to agree or even finding them in the first place harder.

I did suggest that if a person was to "accidentally" see inside of one and then to tell them which one it still wouldn't help. Even if you knew for certain and the police came and found the bike (assuming you left it open for them, see above) the owner of the garage couldn't be prosecuted as they can claim they knew nothing about it, but whoever opened the garage would be arrested for breaking and entering (regardless of the contents!).

Tomorrow I should be getting a call from the officer assigned to investigate, I will be pushing very strongly for them to search if possible or at least give me in writing a reason why they can't as I will need it to inform the insurance. I've also been informed that the case may also be passed over to the Met's stolen vehicle investigation team who might know more about the location and who owns it (its notorious for this so they said).

I haven't given up hope completely and TBH I am extremely disappointed at the Police's apparent lack of action, quite simply something is broken in the system and needs fixing. Strangely though I am slightly wiser as to why they reacted the way they have.

It isn't the people on the front lines, they are more than willing to do the right thing, they just get held back all the time!

However I have taken the time I would have spent tonight to send an email of complaint to the met commissioner and my MP basically pointing out how disappointed I am and how seriously broken the system must be that allows todays events to occur!

If they could prove it was you...

You should write in to MCN about this, I'm sure they'd love this story!

What sort af locks are on these garages? If its just the lock in the handle that isn't going to be hard to open. Any key that will fit will rattle it open. If they have padlocks I'd phone a locksmith, pick one garage if the bike isn't in there then you know it's in the other one and then you can have the police open it up, or get the locksmith to open that one as well, then all you have to do is take your bike home. There won't be any damage to the locks so just shut the garage up again if you don't find it in the first one you open.
