I've been away from bikes for a few years, but the car-commute is looking more like congestion hell every day. if they're not cutting the parking spaces they're putting up driver-enraging (sorry, 'Traffic calming') It's time to get back on two wheels again.

It's a 70 mile round trip to work and back, and I'd plan on leaving the car at home all year round.

Any suggestions on which bike's going to do the best job? Don't care what it looks like, just want something comfortable, reliable and able to cope.

Thanks!

Honda Pan European Or BMW R1100RS (or RT) if all you want to do is commute - & I assume you'll be on the motorway a bit?

Thanks, Leadfoot. Yes - I need to do a bit of M40, but I'm mostly on the major A roads. A Pan Euro sounds good (as recommended to me by a m'cycle traffic cop last night), but aren't they a to service? The RT sounds pretty good as well - any ideas where to look on the web for classifieds/reviews?

Thanks again!

Pretty much any bike would be ok for that distance, though a fairing for the rain would help. The most important thing is decent clothing for the rain & winter. Definitely considering heated gloves/grips for this one!
