It still baffles me why anyone wants to live there. Same goes for most cities though.

The attitude of the people, and general atmosphere of the south is truly horrible too.

Living in the south, sadly I can agree there's some truth in this. You couldn't pay me to live in London though!

I recently vanned it to the top of Norfolk to collect a motorbike for a mate. Everyone was so friendly that it seemed odd, then I realised that's actually how people should be. I probably spoke to more random members of the public in an afternoon than I speak to down here in a month.

Is right on the Pennjne foothills with some exceptional moorland and views out to Ireland on a clear day, yet only 25 mins from Manchester in the morning. Best of both worlds.

Whereas London is the political, economic and cultural capital of Britain. It has five international airports and the Eurostar. More than 50 countries are within a three-hour flight time and upwards of 300 international destinations have direct links to London. Around 230 languages are spoken in the city. It has four World Heritage Sites. One third of the city is devoted to parks and open spaces. The city has more than 6,000 restaurants, of which 65 are Michelin-starred. London is Europe's best shopping destination. It has over 240 museums. It's the key attraction for overseas visitors; 14.6 million + people went to London last year and spent over £8.6 billion.

I could go on and on and on. I am a northerner(ish) living in London and think the city is far from perfect, but your frequent dogmatic assertions that London is a sthole are misplaced. Yes, the centre is relatively heavily polluted, it is overcrowded and some of the tube lines are dirty, but it is still one of the most vibrant and interesting cities in the world.

If Bolton is so great, would you mind if the 8.3m people who live in London moved up? smile

Yeah, I can't imagine WHY you'd want to live in one of the top cities in the world!? rolleyes

The beautiful architecture, museums, shopping, nightlife, world class restaurants, street markets & indie food places, bars, skybars, extensive public transport, the culture & history, huge parks, tourist attractions, and best of all, more work at much higher pay!

Have I missed anything out?

As for the people, I don't agree that people are generally more friendlier away from London. It's easy to think so if you're not used to the multicultural nature of London and the way you have to live when you share a space with 7 million others, but there's friendly people everywhere just as there are unfriendly buggers too.

I have a thing for girls who are:
- Chartered accountants
- Work for one of the "Big 4"
- Cut-glass English accents
- Petite
- Chinese

Pretty much rules out the entire world except London, Hong Kong or Shanghai!

fk me, you've all gone a bit defensive. I would object for several reasons. Firstly the stupid accent, secondly they'd overcrowd the open space we have and destroy the greenery, thirdly I don't want to listen to stories about the Krays all day every day and there are plenty more reasons.

Oh and the pay comment is laughable. Not much pout earning loads when the average house costs 7 times the average wage is there, all your money goes on paying rent or mortgage.

I love the 5 airports comment though. You do know they're used to get you out of the dirty, stinking sthole that is London smile

I find Londoners quite friendly. Country bumpkins can be a bit insular.

Yes you have:

The filth and pollution.
The selfish, arrogant and generally rude inhabitants.
The high levels of crime.
The congestion.
Accommodation and general living costs are expensive.

Is that a typical London weighting for wages? I doubt it somehow.

Are you saying ALL of London is filthy and polluted, or ALL of everywhere else isn't?

For the rest of your points, there's the same elsewhere in the country (pick any large conurbation) as there are nice places in both London and outside. There's more crime here because there's 7x more people than the 2nd largest city and 15x or more than other cities.

Accommodation costs are expensive, I'll give you that. But that's what happens in popular places!

Yes, because the 14.6 million visitors arrive by magic fking carpet.

I'm not being defensive, just providing a valid counter argument.

Re: wages/house prices - have you seen their meteoric rise? Yes, it may well be a bubble, but as long as you can get your foot in the door, you're sorted. If you can't get your foot in the door, well then you don't have to live in the "dirty, stinking sthole" - win win smile

Agreed on the awful accent, however.

I work in Hong Kong & can honestly say, I've yet to meet a Chinese Chartered accountant who Work for one of the "Big 4" and has a Cut-glass English accent but they are all Petite wink

Nope, but it's typical of someone from London to mention it.

My point was more that it's much more possible to earn that level in London, than it is outside of it.
