It is quite amazing how many of you have taken Loon's bait.

You may live in the centre of the universe, with all it's apparent benefits but you're not very bright are you?

Nope, but it's typical of someone from London to mention it.

My point was more that it's much more possible to earn that level in London, than it is outside of it.
Yeah i know. I'm just enjoying the banter.

I work in Cambridge, which is about as far south as i like to go. I breathe a sigh of relief once i cross the Lincolnshire border on the way home

Are you saying ALL of London is filthy and polluted, or ALL of everywhere else isn't?
There are some very pleasant parts around London, but the actual city is pretty grim.

Moily said:
For the rest of your points, there's the same elsewhere in the country (pick any large conurbation) as there are nice places in both London and outside. There's more crime here because there's 7x more people than the 2nd largest city and 15x or more than other cities.
So the over-population somehow makes the crime level perfectly acceptable?

Moily said:
Accommodation costs are expensive, I'll give you that. But that's what happens in popular places!
Apparently so, but I still don't understand why people would pay so much to live in a place with so many downsides.

Are the crime levels so out of kilter with the rest of the UK?

How does it fare on a pro-rata basis?

I hope I am not "taking the bait" by replying to you, but it is interesting to see how he can substantiate his dogma. I haven't seen that he can. And sorry to disappoint you, but I am not frothing at the mouth with anger. It's an interesting question, since the city is such a divisive place. But I have voted with my feet!

If there is ever a "Name your top 10 thread derailments", this will be a prime candidate. Guy loses his P&J and asks for help, but PH manages to turn it into a North/South divide ststorm.

They're definitely the same dirty stinking stholes. Thankfully I don't live in any of those areas. I have to say that what is a regular throwaway comment from me has certainly spiced this thread up. I do t like London but in all honesty I dislike most large cities and couldn't imagine anything worse than living in one; working in several is bad enough.

Wouldn't be PH otherwise, would it? Sadly.

Condolences to the OP. Been there, got the t-shirt (in London).

Whereas London is the political, economic and cultural capital of Britain. It has five international airports and the Eurostar. More than 50 countries are within a three-hour flight time and upwards of 300 international destinations have direct links to London. Around 230 languages are spoken in the city. It has four World Heritage Sites. One third of the city is devoted to parks and open spaces. The city has more than 6,000 restaurants, of which 65 are Michelin-starred. London is Europe's best shopping destination. It has over 240 museums. It's the key attraction for overseas visitors; 14.6 million + people went to London last year and spent over £8.6 billion.

I could go on and on and on. I am a northerner(ish) living in London and think the city is far from perfect, but your frequent dogmatic assertions that London is a sthole are misplaced. Yes, the centre is relatively heavily polluted, it is overcrowded and some of the tube lines are dirty, but it is still one of the most vibrant and interesting cities in the world.

If Bolton is so great, would you mind if the 8.3m people who live in London moved up? smile
To be fair London is a sthole despite the points you've made. Ex-Northerner, Ex-London dweller, Ex SE dweller, Ex-European major city dweller, Ex-US megalopolis dweller here.

sthole is as sthole does and I contend that unless you're a multi, multi millionaire that London does not offer a good quality of life.

I'm not baiting anyone.

He hates London. That's his opinion, I'm sure he can substantiate it is a st hole as much as you can substantiate it isn't. But if you're looking for objective points you're as well asking him to defend his favourite colour. He's a wind up merchant and you're biting.

I have to say though I've been London a lot and I'm similarly amazed people choose to live there. To each their own I think.

Baiting or not, it's always worth trying to make him say something serious for once.

@Whoever complained of thread derailment, can we only say how sorry we are? What does that add? At least with all the O/T posts, his OP may get some exposure.
