I am serious when I say it's a dirty stinking sthole in my opinion. I lived there for 5 years as a student and had my first job there too. I didn't like it at all. It's that simple. If you like it, them that's your choice, but personal like or dislike is unlikely to be swayed by macro statements about what London has or doesn't have.

It's definitely got a lot of Chinese accountants!

You've just named two of the estates I lived on as a kid and the place I now live! Fannys got a makeover after the landlord topped himself and a local drinker bought it as a hobby. It's pretty damn nice in there too, if a little overpopulated by footballers and wannabe WAGs. The Lostock sadly died a death a good few years ago. A friend is trying to buy it and convert it to a fine restaurant, but struggling to engage the current owner.

I know you are being serious, but as I have said, I was interested to see why you think it's a dirty stinking sthole.

Because it's a city and dislike the idea of city living immensely. What little greenery you have is a man made park rather than natural. I like the idea that within 2 minutes drive or walk I can be out on the moors. I couldn't care less about how many airports you've got, one is sufficient for me and it's probably a lot closer than the 5 you have to you as well.

Actually the primordial forests of the British Isles were chopped down thousands of years ago, so none of the scenery is natural wink

At least in a manicured park in London you can eyeball some of those Chinese accountants wink

Don't think its quite a straight choice (thankfully) between northern moors and the centre of London. Like all things a nice balance can be achieved without resorting to moving up north.

Re: wages/house prices - have you seen their meteoric rise? Yes, it may well be a bubble, but as long as you can get your foot in the door, you're sorted. If you can't get your foot in the door, well then you don't have to live in the "dirty, stinking sthole" - win win smile
Not sure a bubble is a good thing! Door will be open after the election next year - just walk in!

Yeah, I can't imagine WHY you'd want to live in one of the top cities in the world!? rolleyes

The beautiful architecture, museums, shopping, nightlife, world class restaurants, street markets & indie food places, bars, skybars, extensive public transport, the culture & history, huge parks, tourist attractions, and best of all, more work at much higher pay!

Have I missed anything out?
Yes, the great motorcycling roads. Oh, wait...

The trouble with the north is the ranks of undesirable poor people you see everywhere, it's a wonder there isn't more wide spread polyester poisoning and it's so hard to find decent quinoa.

How are you coping being banned from the United thread? Im presuming you're the one who got banned that someone referred to recently. I'm guessing not too well, as you're here attacking the North. hehe

Bolton, on the other hand...
Is right on the Pennjne foothills with some exceptional moorland and views out to Ireland on a clear day, yet only 25 mins from Manchester in the morning. Best of both worlds.
Whilst I agree with the sentiment it has to be said that on the clearest of clear days, looking west from the top of Darwen Hill you can just about see Blackpool tower, so either you've got some feckin hawkeyed bionic vision or you made the bit about views to Ireland up.

Problem with the South is it's full of untrustworthy southerners especially London, is actually a bit like Mos Eisley.

Give me the north west any day.

Justin Cyder, sniggering to himself in another thread;

Yes, and all thanks to you posting it up in the most cringeworthy thread in the first place, for your own attention seeking reasons.

LoonR1 makes a throwaway comment about London being a st tip, London dwellers go mad. Loon notes that the ludicrous London housing market destroys the higher-than-average wages earned in London, until Moily comes in with an ostentatious display of wealth. He earns 15 times the national average, don't you know?

Yes, Moily's comment was definitely worthy of inclusion, Justin Cyder's usual club-footed attempts at internet humour were crap, as usual however.

Of course there will always be an element of poetic licence when writing prose about ones hometown winkm
