Slogging through France to hit the western point at Santa Barbara then heading across until we hit the coast the other side.

Finally took mine a last year after years of only riding off road… the road sense from driving stands you in good stead. Riding the bike at my own pace with no distractions/ calls/ music is bliss.

Do it!

A CBT has been mentioned a few times, I'm pretty sure it's not needed from a certain age, due to licence classifications for "oldies", for example I'm 49 I don't think I need to pass a CBT to ride a bike on L plates?

Could be wrong though!

That's to ride a moped as i understand it, a pre 1997 car licence included the full moped entitlement.

Anything else, and it's CBT time every 2 years

Far and away the best thing about bikes is the ease of travel. Get a license, plan a trip. Any bike will do.

Although I passed my test in 1991 at 21 years old, by the age of 30 I'd stopped riding due to work/family/ house etc. Roll forward 20 years and I bought a bike and have had some most excellent adventures!

The best escape route to the sun being a 2.5 day journey London to Athens! From there you start the adventure! I dare you!

First time to Athens was 1992 on an XT350 (couldn't do motorways really so it took longer). Last two years on a larger bike, much easier.

Pic from Peja, Kosovo

Just looked at my licence, I have provisional entitlement up to a 125, is that classed as a moped?

A 125 is not a moped. You have provisional licence to ride a 125 ONLY if you have a CBT certificate to validate your entitlement.

Never too old and don't worry about the "born again biker" label or the "midlife crisis" one it is just bullst.

I rode a bike 16-17 then didn't ride again til early 30s and passed at 34. Rode for 6 years til 40 then took a break when I had a kid because I thought I should be sensible. THat made me unhappy so I got another bike when I was 46 and now I have two at 53 (A Street Twin and a Street Triple) biggrin

My Dad rode bikes in his 70s til he siad he "felt unsafe" and I'll keep riding now as long as I can.

I'm not fast and I have chicken strips but I love riding a motorbike.

It is brilliant at any age.
