They ride very differently (outside of the obvious power differential). Worth test riding both though.

Confused here. Not so sure that is correct these days. 2024 versions of S and non S have the same power rating. Suspension/electronics is the material difference.

And the side note is the Ducati holds their value so if it's going to be short term it won't hurt financially as much.
Stop talking sense.

What he should do is buy the same bike as other ph’ers or one that they would rather ride other than the one he has his heart set on.

I assume the poster was referring to V4 vs V2 and not V4 vs V4S.

So, done a test ride, did both economy and S. As a 100% road rider there is no appreciable difference between either in performance on the road or rather none that i could discern.I did find myself looking in shop windows and out of the corner of my eye to see if people were looking at it, which they were. It also was no better than my S1000rr. So in my mind it comes down to aesthetics. That rules out the base and logically pushes my choice up to S then up to.....then up to. ..

Lovely bike but not at such a large premium over the BMW. Also my wife got involved and said I had told her that after buying the BMW I wouldn't need another new bike...can anyone on here remember me saying that?

So in short, nice bike if I could have one in the garage for 'High Days and Holidays' and have my BMW for the rest of the year I would.......New S1000rr it is and a nice little cruise in the Carribean with the change. Thanks for your insights.

No one mentioned the V2?

Anyone else find the OP’s conclusions above a bit odd?

Comes down to aesthetics but you've turned down a V4? You are not well in the head, sir! There's a reason people gawp at Ducatis.

If you actually read what he wrote, he was comparing aesthetics of the base V4 and the V4S.

Nice selective quoting there to fabricate something that was said that really wasn’t said at all. 1/10

Well, since you ask.
Visually, I perceive very little difference between the V4 and the S, whereas the BM has a face only a mother could love. You have a different emotion, which is fine if that suits you and your decision parameters.
Perhaps budget is a factor? In which case, the BM wins. The Ducati demands a bit more from the wallet (and acceptance from the wife, if that is a fetter on your decision). But hey, enjoy that cruise. Personally, being trapped on a boat with a load of old s has never been my bag.

Me too, that’s why I have a 1098S. Even though it won’t start ATM Lol 😂
