The power to weight discussion has me feeling a little paranoid. I mean, yes, I’ve let myself go a little, but still ….. :-)

Lots of interesting ideas. I’ve never had something small and screamy, is worth thinking about. That’s a real change in direction as what I think I was looking for was something that encourages carrying corner speed, but really grunty so I don’t need to be hammering through gears. Probably something with more weight over the front wheel than my multistrada.

I’m not sure that sounds like a Busa or a H2… I guess it’s impossible to pick a bike when you’re not quite sure what you want.

I’m also starting to think my Busa test ride had the lift control left on high. I did play with the traction control but not the lift … wonder if that’s why it just seemed to gather speed with no drama.

ETA…. The one thing I do know is that I now want a 205/Cossie hybrid… that must be bonkers.
I also have a Multistrada but went for the V2S as I wanted a bike that I could just give it death the whole time...that only does little power wheelies. I assume you have / had the V4? I also have a GSX-R 600 as wanted a semi comfy sports bike with a revvy and smooth engine.

Everyone needs a bonkers 205. The odd thing is that it still handles like a 205 even though it is mainly Cossie rally car underneath.

I’m having similar thoughts to the OP, - I keep having impure thoughts about 1299 Panigales. Last big V2 Ducati quite probably. Have no real need for one, and could most likely only extract 10% of the capability of the thing, but just look at it!

I love the Panigale apart from the twin engine….if that was a 4 or 3 pot in line it would be great….im a rev junkie. My V2 multi is like a diesel at 10k

They do rev quite well for a twin, but I get what you’re saying. For a screaming top end coupled with a reasonable pace it’s hard to look past some of the older 600s. Think the R6 went to nearly 16000rpm.

That 205 is a thing of beauty by the way.

Mine is an older 1200 pikes peak. I think it’s a keeper as it does so much so well. I do look at V4S and V4 pikes peak, and if mine died or became too much of a pain to keep I would get one. But for the vast majority of what I use a bike for it’s brilliant. It’s quick enough to be exciting, really comfortable and a really characterful motor. I’ve become quite attached to it.

I have a cruiser along side it, and a couple of dirt bikes. But I remember the days when 200 hp was loads in a car (the days of the Cossie). It’s insane that you can get that in a bike. And the last time I had that, my road riding was getting a bit carried away (that’s a danger of engines that like to be rev’d) … this idea of a last hurrah is based on it won’t be my only bike and I won’t use it that much, so hopefully it’s a buzz without getting drawn into riding it quicker and quicker…. That’s the idea anyway.

I keep looking at the BMW S1000rr and I just wish they did it in a 150hp 750 engine as the litre just makes silly speeds too easy and normal. I tried the r in 160hp and it’s still a bit too quick but I prefer the RR looks etc

I had a GSXR 750 that had "only 150 BHP"

Trust me, it does silly speeds quick enough biggrin was doing 120+ within seconds of leaving my driveway, having intended to 'take it easy' for its first ride

I had to sell it, simply wasn't usable (by me) on the road and I'm aware it's nowhere near the cutting edge these days

Within 20 minutes of buying a k4 I was 140 on a B road. First head down tail up bike I had and it was ridiculously easy.

Panigale V2 has about the same power and plenty of bling.

I have a GSXR 600 and it is still insanely fast, 150 is easy and it eggs you on to hear one of the best engines ever at 15,000 rpm. I would only really want the 750 to give a bit more low to mid range punch.

I like the idea of the pretty Panigale V2 but I sold my RS660 as I hated the twin lack of sparkle at the top and linear delivery. I understand the V2 likes to be revved more though. I have the V2s in my Multistrada, brilliant torque but diesel like up in the revs and I am sure it makes tractor sounds at times low down.

I was really comparing 150hp to the 200 hp missiles. At least with 150 you probably use 70 to 80% of it at times, I suspect many people do not use the last 50hp on the 200hp bikes. That and the fact that I can get more torque from a revvy 4 in the bigger capacities. I do not need any more bhp than the 125 crank hp that my 600 has, its the torque that it lacks...so I just keep it in a lower fear near 9000 rpm.

I think that, for road riding, most people will use less than 100bhp, most of the time. 100bhp will still get you well over 140mph and will be quicker than most other traffic.I can easily do a quick road run and not get over 6000rpm, but I'd suggest that's not the point.

I may very rarely use the last 50% of the power but, when the opportunities shows themselves, there's nothing to beat it.

My 950 multi Ducati is near 120hp with the remap and decat, I tend to use full throttle a lot on that and all the revs but you would rarely use all the throttle and all the revs in all the gears as you get up to serious speeds very quickly...I know what you mean about every now and then being able to use every horsepower though...can't beat that feeling!

I'd agree with that and I think a lot of people feather the throttle on a really powerful bike too. A lot of youtube reviews where they are supposedly on it you can see the throttle is nowhere near the stop.

Recently I had the same dilemma as the OP. Looking for a last whizz/bang last performance hurrah, which in all honesty my Thruxton RS, acquired last year, was unable to deliver - nice bike, but a tad polite. Fast forward a couple of weeks, and today I bought this.
A bike which in so many ways has abilities way beyond my own. But I think it will be fun and it just had to be done.
Best of luck selecting your preferred option. There are so many excellent bikes out there.

VW have made some right ugly bikes since they bought Ducati.

For the bonkers fix I have a 1078 F4. I use a Diavel as my go to, which is a great bike, but even that feels slow after riding the F4, which possibly has one of the best sounding and most evocative I4 engines ever!

I did think that comment was not really what you would say to someone sharing their new and expensive pride and joy with us.

Agreed

I mean we were all thinking fking hell that's ugly but it's not polite to type it biggrin

Although I've often said it about my KTMs, thankfully they ride better than they look

I must admit that I have not been very complimentary about the MT10 front light. I have also said the Multistrada beak looks a bit daft but I do own one.
