From a quick Google and for anyone interested it seems that the parts needed for this job are: 1x 1K0820746 (grid) 8x 3D0867646 (mounting clip). Might be worth checking that they're the right part with VW first. These parts seem to fit a range of PQ35/36 cars. The grills are on eBay for around £5, cannot find the clips.

Not sure why you think it is VW's fault that a stone damaged a bit of the OP's car?
Did you read (beyond the first few words) the post you responded to?

@NPI. Yes I did but that still does not explain why you think VW is responsible for the damage. It the same as trying to say they are responsibls for a stone chip to the paint work.

They could prevent the damage in the first place by fitting the stone guard as standard which would probably add pence to each car.

Further to my comment above. If someone poked a screwdriver through the bumper and did the same damage you wouldn't say VW was responsible so why is it different because a stone did the damage. Your argument does not hold water and VW or any manufacturer has no liability in these circumstances.

Same goes with dropping a mobile phone and blaming the manufacturer for the damage....

You need to work on your comparisons - stones chipping paintwork, dropping mobile phones and deliberate damage and not the same as VW being easily able to prevent stone damage by fitting a simple guard.

I think it's unlikely that anybody could be as stupid as you appear to be so I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you're trolling - therefore I won't respond further.

Woah, this escalated.

Gottans - Opinions are like belly buttons, everyone's got one.
Campo, SteBrown91 and NPI - Thanks, as you said, nothing ventured, nothing gained. £100 is better in my pocket than VW's and does restore some faith in the dealership.

Next week I'll have a new condenser, a system clean, re-gas and a nice protective grill. All for about 60% of what they wanted to charge me originally. If i'd have rolled over and paid the original £693 would VW have sent me a Christmas Card? I think not.

VW advised that the inner grill isn't fitted in the UK as our roads are considered to be decent, but it is fiited elsewhere in Europe, they've agreed to fit that for no additional cost, which will at least give me piece of mind to at least prevent it happening again during my 18k pa travels.

Hello,
I took my car to VW with a non functionning A/C yesterday and they are telling me that the condenser has impact damage and requires changing. Cost £675. This is not covered by my warranty because it's caused by an external damage. I'm shocked at how easily such an expensive part can be damaged!

My car is 2012 1.6 TDI. I've looked up the cost of the part (dealership cost: £430 vs vwsupply.co.uk cost: £253), to potentially have the work done somewhere else for cheaper labour. https://vwsupply.co.uk/car-parts-detailed/part/975...

Also, I've read your comments about adding a protective grill. Have some of you done this and if so, has this affected the performance of the car?

I'm thinking of using this website to buy the parts but not sure which part number I would need for the condenser itself. There are two types there. Any help or advice kindly received!
I could potentially live with no A/C but it's handy to put it on to help with condensation. Really annoyed at VW for this. I still have my 2003 Mk4 and never had this problem ever. Thank you in advance for your help!
