No, I wouldn't just take something that seemed a high price without querying. In fact I spoke to Dan yesterday and he said that sometimes the front wheel bearings can take a while to remove as the brakes have to come off first and they can be awkward on occasion. He assured me that the quoted price is a worst case figure and if it's easier / quicker, he would reduce the charge accordingly.
Btw, we have a newish X5 and have had a few other cars serviced by main dealers so I really don't consider Griffith parts should be expensive to buy or service - one of the reasons I chose the Griff over a Tuscan

Just picked the Griff up from Dan's - alternator all sorted and getting a nice, healthy Voltmeter reading. He also swapped the switch which operates the fans - was working before but the new one brings them on earlier so the engine now runs at 90 rather than 100 (thermostat checked for accuracy, too).
