Drove around for an hour with some more revving as usual but not extreme, got back. Restarted engine after 5 min and got a dreadful ticking/knocking noise. Seemed to com from center en left of engine. Only at tickover, revving up and the sound is gone.
Oil pressure is good (30-50)

After a bad sleep and thinking about it. Could it be the camshaft ? My Griff did only 20700 KM (13000 mls)so to me it is unlikeley to be a camshaftproblem.

The next day I turned the engine on and .... nothing wrong. Took it out for a blast and only after 20 min drive there was a bit of knocking. Only at tickover. No power loss or other worrying things. Drives as usual.

At the end of the day did the same again. No ticking anymore.

Curious about your ideas about this and suggestion wat I should do.
After two cold-start the problem seems to be gone.
To me it seems I have had a problem with one of the cam followers, lack of oil in the pressure chamber causing too much play. Every cold start has thick oil and high oil pressure en seems to solve the oil lack ?
For now I think I should not do anything as just wait for the ticking to return. If it does there is definitely something wrong with either camshaft or follower.

Ronald.

You might have had a bit of contaminant i.e. carbon, that had blocked one of the hydraulic tappets then cleared itself.

Alternatively you have one of the exhaust manifold gaskets failing which is only showing up with heat expansion of the manifold, hence why it is quiet from cold. The noise a blowing gasket makes sounds very much like a metalic tapping noise.
