bank dropping out (again) and over revving

Shaun, (MS2Tuning) made me a new loom for my MS install.
If you are keeping the Lucas it would still be wise to renew the loom, I'm sure Shaun would make one for you.
You'll be rid of unwanted wiring and have a neat install.
This might be your best bet if wanting to keep the Lucas. If you are keeping the Lucas it would still be wise to renew the loom, I'm sure Shaun would make one for you.

John Eales also does a loom:

I wouldn't personally fit that Chimaera loom you have spare, you may find it resolves the ECU issue but the roof may become difficult to remove.

I'll have you know mine was off on Sunday, (rare but true!).

Check the pins in your ECU plug, I had an identical fault and one of the pins had worked loose probably due to yanking the ECU out to tidy up the rats nest. There is very little play on the ECU loom so any movement puts pressure on the plug. Form the rear of the engine looking forward: Pin 11 left bank of injectors, pin 13 Right bank. Worth a try!
Worth a try. Clean the pins real bright using a match stick wraped in cotton wool soaked in Servisol contact cleaner or the Halfords stuff. Which bank is spewing out neat fuel. Wet plugs when it happens on one side should help. Are you really sure a complete bank is dropping out? I had exactly the same symptons, at no specific condition engine felt it has lost half of its power, still idling but almost no acceleration. Ignition off, restart and all fine. After ECUmate indicated road speed sensor fault it turned out the cable on the speed sensor near the diff was loose, fitted new connector and all fine.

Not exactly but its chucking what smells like neat fuel out the back end. It does idle but wont accelerate and sounds as rough as fook if you put your foot on the gas.Did about 450 miles at the weekend and it happened twice, and hadn't happened in the previous 300ish miles, so difficult to replicate.
Will check this though as its a significantly cheaper fix than changing the engine loom.

It did it after dropping down a hill so just in gear but no gas applied and went around the corner at the bottom and it went - luckily only 20 yards from the car park we were going into. The other time was just cruising about 45mph and went to accelerate and gone again so just pulled over on the side of the road.
There were 5 cars on the run so some spirited overtaking and driving in places so thankful it didn't happen then.
Hope its as simple as speed sensor wiring/connection.

Ok a discussion, injectors fire in bank's, are they fired when given an earth or by a 12v supply? If as Adrian suggests might be happening and they are negative fired, maybe you have a loom wire down to earth somewhere rubbing away intermittently. ?
Thats what i`d go with. and yes they are fired by an earth.Could well be. Its so intermittent I cant replicate it so will just check the earthing from the injectors. Hope its the o/s not the n/s.
From memory the o/s wires come out each injector, join near the injector and head directly back towards the bulkhead and not near the coil but i'll check. They then disappear behind the engine somewhere.
Its a 430 BTW not a 500 although a miox of wiring (500 and precat and some other bits due to being press/factory car). 250k miles isn't going to be an advantage either.

If it is flooding one bank of the engine, then a set of clamp on temperature sensors would read exhaust pipe temp and 'see' it....which I have... for when we were reading exhaust temps on my turbo along side the RPM related supplementary fuel injection system from last century.

Adrian@
I bought a remote temp sensor after the Growl so could do this but not sure what you mean I need to try?LOL
Adrian@
RPM doesn't seem to be affected.
