Griffith Parts List?

Like it or not and for some reason you obviously don't, the club IS the best place for this sort of information to be hosted for the sake of continuity. The failure of and subsequent loss of much of the information on The Griffith Pages is testament to what happens when someone loses interest.
I'm not a supporter of everything disappearing behind the TVRCC members firewall, because as you rightly say it's important information. I can also see the other argument that for that reason folk should be members to help support the club, the TVRCC doesn't have huge financial support from a manufacturer like the POC does.
Everything is done on a volunteer basis and there are only so many hours in the day so it's just not possible to do everything that needs to be done. Fact of life!
I continually see this 'them and us' BS rolled out all the time and it's ridiculous to call the club 'elitist'. It's far from elitist as it's a club run by members for members and anyone can join whether car owner or not. There's no paid board of administrators, there's no paid team producing the magazine or running events it's all grass roots with support from the committee when requested/needed.
Completely independently of this thread I have rejoined the TVRCC because I realise I cannot just critiscise from the outside and if we want something from the club then we need to influence from the inside rather than just offer negative critiscism.I'm not a supporter of everything disappearing behind the TVRCC members firewall, because as you rightly say it's important information. I will be the first one to admit that I have many great ideas that often don't get delivered or at least get delivered much later than I promised.
Let's pull together on this one, the most important thing is to actually get this off the ground as well as all the other good ideas and not to throw rocks at the club and each other.
Apologies for the rant.

The problem I have with this information disappearing behind the TVRCC firewall ....
I don't think this is in the spirit of us supporting each other as a group of like-minded individuals and nor do I think this is what the OP intended....

I still stand by my comment that the cost of membership is peanuts in comparison to a tank of fuel or any minor upgrade.

To be fair and please don't take offence V8GRF has always had the best interests of the TVcc at heart. I know from personnel experience ( Having met him a couple of times) that we need support . Don't think for one minute from that Post he implied anything different. A tank full of 'V' well spent IMO.

Brian, no offence taken mate
Frank, I don't know if I can put pictures in it, but I'm figuring things out quickly.
If its just text please feel free to email me, or if you go into the wiki and at the top left you will see Update This Article - click on this then paste all the text right where I've put your name.
I'll figure out the formatting.

Ian, as I rebuild my Griff I'm taking lots of pics and I am also thinking that I would have been great to have had some sort of 'manual' for all those bits and bobs. When I rebuild the gearbox I will also take lots of pics and then happy to do some sort of commentary so the next person can learn from my mistakes. Something like this would have been really useful to meIf its just text please feel free to email me, or if you go into the wiki and at the top left you will see Update This Article - click on this then paste all the text right where I've put your name.

Do you think this sort of thing would be useful for others? It could be the next generation of the "Bible".
I guess I could put it in something like Microsoft Word format. Unfortunately I am a bit dependant on guys like you on the IT side as I have no idea how to set these sites up - perhaps I should learn.

I was thinking about what we could do with information like this - I have a couple of "how to" documents which could do with a decent home too.
I have a couple of ideas about this - it could be added to a Gearbox section in the Parts List, but it takes the Parts List into a whole new realm and I don't know if it would get confusing.
Alternatively we could create another Wiki called something like The Bible and put this kind of very valuable information in there.
Whatever we decide to do, please collect the information and write it up - don't worry about formatting etc, we can figure that out when we decide how to present it later.
Cheers

Well I'm kind of making it up as I go at the minute Frank, but then I've only been at it a day
Some things I have in mind already are;
Create sections and subsections like there are in a Haynes manual. And thankfully this is relatively easy to do.
To create a top level heading you just put = at either side of the text you want to be the heading.
To create the next level down you put == at either side
and you can go to a maximum of 3 levels by putting === at either side of the text to create level 3
For links, I decided to use the word Clicky to indicate where to click, or it could get messy.
They too are easy to create.
You put (url) at the start
then the word Clicky
then press ALT and press the \ key to the left of the letter Z to give you one of these |
then put the actual url link - the easiest way is to open the page you want to link to and copy the link from the browser, then paste it in.
And finally put (/url)
For example: (url)Clicky|http://www.fancyplates.com/contacts.html(/url)
Note: to be able to show how this works I've used round brackets (....) but in the real world these brackets need to be the square versions [....]
The table of contents will resolve itself as soon as you Submit your change.
Thats really the extent of my thinking now. But as I said, I'm making it up as I go so if anyone has other ideas I'd be more than happy to listen.
I would prefer everyone to 'own' this document and feel they can contribute to it, and get help if they struggle.
I thought a WIKI would be something difficult to do, but in reality its no more difficult than some of the formatted lists we've created in the past and 'Formatting Help' is quite useful and simple.

Hi Ian.
Do you know if this PH wiki use the standard wiki markup language?
Am asking because I have been playing with wikia along the same lines (see link below) and created a TVR Parts wikia site
http://tvr-parts.wikia.com/
http://tvr-parts.wikia.com/wiki/Manuals
I uploaded the T-5 service manual here under Gearbox to see what it would look like
If this wiki here on PH uses the same or similar markup language then it seems pretty simple for a few of us to keep up to date.
Any idea if we can also upload files? As long as everything is public domain material I think we would be ok from a copyright standpoint but happy to take it down if any complaints.

Great start with the Wiki guys, personally I prefer this to the github approach, but being a technophobe I would.
I have added a bit on the wiki and got a few more when I can find the notes I made when I did the jobs.
The clicky link for the fusebox details is not working for me though, maybe just me, see technophobe above?

Hi Paul, I honestly don't know about the wiki 'standard' markup language. Though the formatting used on the wiki and does conform to what I can see you can do on the wikia site.Do you know if this PH wiki use the standard wiki markup language?

Your experiment does look good though.
Uploading files looks to be the Achilles heal of the PH wiki as I can't see it is possible or any reference to it.
