I'm pleased to say all the jobs are done now, apart from fitting Petegriff's s/s exhaust tray. So a big thanks to many of you answering my frequent cries for help over the last 6 months on this forum. There is however one last biggy - that is to get a new paint job. I've talked to a few spray shops and S&D by far gave me most confidence about knowing their way around the car and generally about GRP and sikaflex - and right down to detail like sourcing original under-bonnet stickers. Problem is I'm in Herts and they're in Blackpool.... and the car is presently SORNed; so I've decided to get it transported up to its birthplace. I tried getting a few transport quotes and they vary by an order of magnitude and to be frank I didn't like the sound of at least half of them. So rather than read about my griff falling off one of these on the M6 I'd love to hear any good transporter advice or even about a southern equivalent to S&D. Thanks again fellas.

S and D must have a few recommendations, I'd start with them.

Ogdens 07768-006445 move TVRs around for me and regularly deliver down south, so would like a load to bring north.

This company contacts shippers then the shippers contact you with a quote.
Not used them myself for a car but they supplied me with quotes from couriers for some bumpers which in the end were disposed of locally.

See how you get on.

If you've got a tow bar or a mate with a tow bar then hire a trailer and do it yourself. Then at least you know that somebody who loves your pride and joy is transporting your pride and joy. I would do it myself except I'm not back until 5th December. Pete

On the odd occasion I have needed to transport my TVR I have just hired a trailer locally. The going rate seems to be around £35 to £45 per day.

My car has been back to Blackpool twice from Surrey and both times I have used Dan who does a lot of work for S&D and DC Trim. I've used him for other stuff too and he is reasonably priced and reliable. More importantly he knows the cars well and is very careful getting them off and on his deck.

ETA - S&D really know their onions so I would stick with them.

Your post just reminded me I could get the interior sorted at DC while it's up there for painting. Sounds like an expensive January coming up.......is this worse than being on crack or what?

Mine went up just for a new rear window. Which became a new roof, dash panel, interior and full respray So yes, the cost of transport will be the least of your worries smile

I've used Shiply with good results - but you have to vet the shippers feedback very carefully as a few peoples feedback weren't as good as they initially appeared, others had zero feedback, and one presumably trailer-less individual even quoted to drive the car - nice try!
I had quotes from roughly £50 to £100 for a 40 mile non-motorway journey, and chose a £90 quote from someone with good feedback and quick and legible responses to questions - turned out to be a decent bloke with Merc flatbed transporter, who also does work for local car dealers and vintage car people. I'd use him again without question.

On the other side of it I recently sold a car that was collected by a Shiply shipper organised by the purchaser. Towcar was the most knackered P38 Range Rover you can possibly imagine, towing a flatbed trailer. I think the car I sold for spares should have been towing the RR. He filled his radiator while he was here, and proudly showed me the 4 bicycle inner tube valves under the bonnet that he connected his fag lighter air compressor to to inflate his shagged air suspension every few miles. I would have worried about him transporting my shopping, never mind a car. So tread carefully!
