Split roof vs Surrey Folding Roof
Discussion
Lots of great feedback about Roger's SFR and will be getting one.
The only negative seems to be about the bag that Roger sells for GBP50. I was going to get one made instead (I live in HK, so no shortage of tailors!). Can someone please send me the bag dimensions and a photo, so that I can show the tailor?

I've a surrey roof on my tam, and like others tends now to live on the car as the permanent roof with the hard roof in a bag in the garage
the tam boot is a pain for the hard roof, the surrey is easy, and also fits across the rear shelf on a tam behind the seats, leaving the boot completely free.
i too think the final finishing could be a little better. compared to the trim work done by DTT on the split roof on my griff there is a clear winner.
it is completely dry, I've never had a leak issue
the bag is expensive and very flimsy, and does not provide sufficient protection for an expensive roof. it can't cost £15 to make so at £50 seems a bit much. ill probably make a better one sometime
the folding mechanism has some sharpish edges, which would be better being blunted off in manufacture. these could mark the roof, so i have a vinyl "sleeve" i put on the mechanism when i put it in the bag
i initially found it did not seat at the screen very well, till i had the screen replaced and the repairers found the screen and rubbers were not fitted well, so n ow it is spot on.
driving at 100 is no noisier than a std roof.
i also had a split roof on my griff, which i made from a std roof and a hacksaw. worked very well, was sealed just by butting the halves together with a neoprene seal in-between . it fit the griff boot perfect on top of the luggage, but was more of a faff to fit, but was cheap as it was a spare roof that i had recovered after the chop
on balance, the split roof looked better, took a little more room, was more fiddly to fit, but for touring, would prefer a surrey roof.

I bought a Surrey roof from Roger the weekend of the Growl 2014. It is a lovely bit of design and is easy to assemble/instal once you have had a couple of practice runs and you have the pensioners fixed to your liking. Roger is a lovely chap and is quite rightly proud of his design.
As far as the earlier comment re holes in the carrying bag I'd suggest two sections of bubble wrap over the joins in the two tensioner struts.
I tend to use only the Surrey roof when we have prolonged periods of good weather - yes I do live in the UK!

Getting a PENSIONER to do anything may be a bit difficult. Love those auto-corrects!As far as the earlier comment re holes in the carrying bag I'd suggest two sections of bubble wrap over the joins in the two tensioner struts.
