I pondered over this very same subject at the beginning of last year, when I wanted to carry out a suspension and wishbone refurbishment. I eventually went for Protech adjustable. Excellent value, lovely quality and fitted perfectly. So far I am very pleased with them, car handles much better, I can tweak them as and when needed and they look the nuts. With the money you save you could invest in new bushes and have your wishbones stripped and powder-coated. Just a thought! Regards, Pete

Thanks for the replys - I thought the Nitrons would be the best option - yes expensive however I am unlikely to sell the car
I do agree you pay for what you get - now I need to see if I can buy at a competative rate
They are good, best to have full geo done when they are fitted, spring rates depend on how you use the carI do agree you pay for what you get - now I need to see if I can buy at a competative rate

Ohlins are in a diferent league again, Nitrons are a good compromise, but getting the correct spring rating is just as important as the brand of dampner!!!
Agreed. The springs on my car are perfect for fast road use on differing surfaces, but would need to be stiffer for regular track use.TV8 said:
not sure what model of Nitrons you are getting? Message Phazed from the Chimaera section for his experiences with the new/latest versions - 46mm I think they are called.
I believe he had problems with his 46mm diameter nitrons and had to be sent back either for refurb or exchange, not whether he still uses them?JamesK said:
I think the wisdom is (was) that Nitrons were worth the extra cash if you had it. Subjective I know.
For clarity I have Nitrons on my car but didn't fit them and haven't personally tried any other after market set ups.
Look guys, sorry for being a bit of a cynic but sometimes a bit of an urban myth grows round these issues. I've got an older set of nitrons on my 'Green Meanie' fitted by a previous owner. Are they any good? they are fine but would probably benefit from a session re-setting them up. Would I buy a set for the rebuild? I'm really not sure, I would probably follow PeteGriff's lead as I know him and he knows what he is talking about. It depends on what you are using the car for. If it's track days then i would focus on suspension, if it's road driving, not many miles per year like most of us then perhaps I would look for another option. For clarity I have Nitrons on my car but didn't fit them and haven't personally tried any other after market set ups.
I also followed the thread on insurance. I insure the 'Green Meanie' on a group insurance with Admiral. 3,000 miles per year, wife as second driver, full no-claims (whatever that means these days) and it costs me approximately £155 per year. Is it better or worse than Classic Line or all the other insurers? I don't know because I've never made a claim but are Admiral going to screw me on a claim, well I hope not but then how do I know that the classic car insureres won't do the same?
Ho hum, it's all down to personal choice and gut feel at the time.
Pete
I Have Nitrons on my Cerb they are good
AST shocks on my Griff very good
Gaz Monotubes on my T350
it is a hard choice to pick but I would choose between the AST and Gaz Monotubes
Your welcome to drive my Griff and see what you think
T350 is at body shop having some snagging done but should be back within the next week or so if you want to drive that as well
