Hi

Couple of questions please -

Where can I buy the rubber strip that attaches to the removable roof and butts up against the windows?

Bonnet stay -catch has broken, is there a solution or just try to find an equivalent catch from Diy store?

What are the main causes of the speedo working intermittently or not at all? (Pre cat)

Is there a griff bible?

Best place for servicing in Buckinghamshire?

Apologies, that's 5 questions!

Thanks

Alan

The manual is by Steve Heath and they come up for sale now and then both on here and on ebay.

The speedo issue could be the sensor or if you're lucky just it's connectors getting a bit cruddy and needing a clean.
Search here for "speedo sensor gkn diff" and see if anything helpful pops up

If by bonnet stay catch you mean the plastic clip up on the passenger side of the bonnet then Powers Performance (tvr power as was) have them for pennies. I bought one in June.

I believe early cars used the same section as the S series cars ( clicky), now obsolete. Later design is slotted into an alluminium section, these are still available from TVR suppliers to the best of my knowledge?

Hi Alan, with respect to the window seal rubber that goes onto the targa 'lid'. I needed to replace the very worn rubbers on my precat and realised the old 'glued' section was not available any more, so thought I would upgrade to the later style! Well what a rip off, TVR outlets wanted ridiculous sums for a couple of strips of thin metal channel, spacer strip and the rubber seal. So, after some research I purchased from a classic car outlet called 'Woolies' a couple of metres of the rubber section and 2 metres of lovely extruded aluminium channel, all for the price of just the rubber seal from TVR outlets! Woolies actually supply a lot of aftermarket suppliers so by using them you cut out a markup! I just cut two lengths of the channel to suit each side of the Targa, drilled and countersunk them, screwed them into the side with small self tappers, then cut seal to length, applied a thin run of super glue to the back, pushed it into the channel and voila a nice new great looking seal!

All the best, Pete

Here's a cross section view of the rubber Peter is referring to, you can see I also painted the aluminium strip.

The end result looks different but it’s a very good alternative. You may have to adjust the windows so they come up further which is easy once you find the adjusters that are accessible through the gap at the top of the doors.

Alan I did similar to Pete and bought the rubber strip from one of the the classic car outlets (could have been Woolies), they advertise in the mags like Practical Classics. I didn't by the aluminium extrusion and found the rubber strip slipped out of the existing extrusion so with a bead of clear silicon inside the extrusion....... Works a treat and cost a fraction. speedo on precat is awkward..... runs off the gearbox and if its issue at that end replacement bits are not available.... nothing stopping you finding someone to make bespoke part but ££££
