Shell have some new stuff called optoplex or something, it is supposed to be a higher octane rating from superu, must say the Griff loved the stuff. In answer to your question, try it and see, mine runs fine on super or normal unleaded but obviously not all are the same and you may get pinking
Shell's new fuel is called "Optimax" and is being introduced to replace Shell Super Unleaded. Some Shell garages already have it, and the rest are getting it in the next couple of weeks.
Shell won't officially quote the Octane rating except to say it's "in excess of 98RON".
Actually when pushed they say about 98.6RON so highest octance rating fuel out there. I know a few people who've tried it already and they say it IS noticeable once your ECU has got used to it, and learnt the new RON (if you have an ECU that does that).
Best news of all is that apparently it costs no more that the old superunleaded.

What is the story with using different fuels? Apache says that he has used normal unleaded. Can you mix this with Super OK? It seems its about a 50/50 split with those garages that have Super and those that don't so it would be useful to know if I could top up with unleaded now and again.
I was told that you don't do any damage if you use unleaded (95) occasionaly, however you will probably notice that the engine pinks under acceleration. It is possible to get the engine tuned to 95 ron which will eliminate the pinking problem, but no one seems willing to confirm whether or not this will cause damage long term.

Wahey. Congrats to Shell and their octopus. I've been having real difficulty finding super unleaded in north London. Was considering getting the car retuned for 95Ron at service next week.
p.s. My girlfriend tells me "Ron" was a Norse God of high speed driving under appropriate conditions.
p.p.s I don't believe her. What does Ron stand for?
Will persevere for a few tanks full to get it all flushed through and try a track spin me thinks.
