Buying a Griff

I want to graduate to my first Griffith and was wandering if anyone could offer some advice on the do's, the don'ts and some general experiences - All welcome - All the best

Hi Mate good choice,

Drive as many as u can and go to a meet and talk to owners.

Right a few checks to be done,

Front upper wishbones/outriggers for corrosion as they are prone to rust as stones are thrown up from wheels and chip the paint.

Suspension Bushes as these take a hammering and can collapse, Replace with nylon/plastic ones.

Chassis for rust and has it been maitained/waxoyled.
Run Engine and check cooling system Fans work as this needs to be in tip top condition.

Vitesee gearbox(upto 94 ish) are general good but the Borg warner box is generally bullet proof.

Check clutch for slip normally last around 30k but have been known to last for a lot longer.

The GKN (early cars) Diff prone to leaks, Later BTR one is Good

Look at carpets/seatbelts etc to see if the car leaks and general condition of interior as this will tend to show how well its been looked after.

Body work is very prone to stone chips on the nose cone so dont be surprised Re spray around £300-£600.

Wheels for curbing, as its hard to find them now as they have stopped making them.

Check all dials work as can be a bit tempermentaly due to dodgy earths but not the end of the world.

Good history and IMO high mileage shouldnt be a problem as i beleive these cars a better used weekly than left to sit about.

Yeah I know, I just wish they had continued to develop it like porkers did with the 911.
