Estoril Wheel Centres in aluminium anyone?
Discussion
Sorry I must have missed the second half of the thread.
I would most certainly be interested in a set of 5 wheel centres in aluminum with a countersunk bolt so I can re-use my shinny Leven screws. I would also be looking to paint mine the same as the wheels. Basically exactly what I have now but in aluminum if the offer is still there?

Hi Guy's.. just picked this up again... Matthew.. the centres are 'counter-sunk' (at an angle) and not 'countre-bored' (Flat bottom)... so you can't use the original fixings..... to do this would require a boss on the back to rebate into but as these are turned, it's not possable....I would most certainly be interested in a set of 5 wheel centres in aluminum with a countersunk bolt so I can re-use my shinny Leven screws. Is David and Mickypee still in... I'll do them all for paint so 0.3mm under as even if you want them polished.. they do look better a bit recessed...
Also, the machine shop is pilled out now with work so not sure on delivery dates...
I did also get a sample from China last week when I was there and they have milled the rear out so the potential is there to have them 100% like the mouldings.. but this will take time as I'd only want to move this forward by face to face discussion.. so guess the turned ones are our best option for now...
I've asked him to look at making a 30 batch and he'll be back to me Monday... Can we all confirm we are in on this over the weekend...
Cheers... John

Firstly many thanks for taking the time to organise this - much appreciated.
I don't think I know enough about turned aluminum to appreciate the challenge of creating these as I am confused.
Personally speaking my preference would be to have the centers 100% like the mouldings so I can re-use my S/S Leven screws and I would be prepared to wait.
Either way if David and Mickypee are still in I am happy to go with the majority and so long as the screws are recessed (i.e not proud) I won't pretend to understand about counter-sunking, countre-boring and bosses... so long as they fit then
Matthew
To use Pum's pic (hope he don't mind)... This is a countresink with a c/sink screw:-
The original ones are more like cheese head screws that are square section and lock-out on the flat bottom...
However to make a disc that will allow you to do this, there must be some local material left on the back to machine into....(or you just make a big hole as these discs are about 3mm thick)
But when you turn the discs on the back, the only way you could do this would be to leave a thick ring all the way round to machine into and this would increase the weight loads (not what we want).
Just turn your original disc over and see the boss on the back... now if you were to put this face down on a record deck and spin the disc you'll see the issue... think of the stylus as the cutting tool the boss will hit the needle so can't be turned.
The fact the Chinese mill the back with a 1/2" slotdrill or something instead of turning it allows them to do what ever we want shape wise so we are not restriced by the fundimental's of turning... the cutting pattern on this looks more like a snail shell instead of a record and the cutter can go in any dirrection to create any features.
Anyway... I'm not sure I'll be going that way as there are other issues associated with China and importing etc.. we don't have the numbers to justify this....
Lets see if David etc comes back... Cheers

Okay.. I have 25 being made in China now... I'll inspect them when I'm out there and bring back the good ones (I hope all 25)... This will be around the 22nd of April when I get back... sorry for the problems here guy's but the UK supplier is pilled out with work and doing these would cause him problems.. TBH the China sample I have here already is much better anyway...
Fingers crossed...

Fantastic news John, again thanks for sorting.Fingers crossed...
Are these the same Chinese ones that were able to be made as exact replicas of the originals?

No... I'd need to go over that with them.. but it would put delivery back by at least 3 months to do that... They will be the same as the UK ones with counter sink holes and a spacer at the back (I'll obviously supply these and screws)... but the same as what I'm using so should be no issue.....Are these the same Chinese ones that were able to be made as exact replicas of the originals?
May be longer term if there is the interest I can get them done exactly as the originals... but they will cost more and it will take time.....
Cheers... John
