After they accepted the cancellation I was told my final bill would be £55.40 (usually £35.00) I gave my notice 30 days exactly to the end of the contract (5th April). Explanation...
Final bill came through, £38.40....?
Direct Debit cancelled, they can chase me for their last £35.00 because they tried to stiff me for £3.40. Glad to be shot of them.
I had this 2 years ago (in May) when I cancelled.Final bill came through, £38.40....?

It was the lunacy (to me) of paying ahead a month which they would then refund (via cheque- I kid you not) the 3 weeks worth of overpayment It was silly then. It is silly now. I then got a final bill for one week. Paid via card and DD cancelled
Just please be careful to return the kit if they ask for it - they are getting quite strict on that now. Keep the parcel shop receipt for the return kit box
Interesting observation four months on from cancelling my VM account. By now, my old email accounts should have been terminated, but they are still active. However, I've noticed a significant uptick in the amount of blatantly obvious phishing spam in my inbox, so either VM have just turned off spam filtering (for reasons of petulance or just plain incompetence is unclear), their spam filters have gotten even more useless, or they've failed to properly terminate my account. I'd email them and ask them to do the job properly but, you know what, I just can't be arsed dealing with them again.

I still get emails to an .ntlworld account, it's been over a year since I cancelled the service. Yes lots of spam, but it's always been bad. anonymoususer said:

14 missed calls from them and counting, since the cancellation date.
My contract runs out in a couple of weeks. I'm not keen to renew regardless of price for less than 6 months as I hope to have a 5g option shortly plus City fibre. What happens if I ignore them? Does it default to another 18mth contract or just run month to month at the new monthly rate?

You will be charged whatever the new rate is but wont be entering a new contract so you can give 30 days / a months notice when you get your new thing installed. Edited by anonymoususer on Thursday 21st March 09:22
So, my current out of contract with Virgin is £64pm. I want the new customer offer of £31pm as it give me more or less what I have now but realise there's little chance of this.
The problem is though even if I get a new deal I've still got the 10yr old TiVO box and remote and it is about as fast as a slug no doubt due to old tech. A new deal won't give me new equipment?
My other option is to cancel, tell them I'm moving out and my mother in law 'moves in' taking on a new customer £31pm contract. They remove/bin my gear and she gets a new install. In 18-months she'll move out and I'll be moving back in. Rinse and repeat. OK I'll lose my email but that's a pain changing all my log in accounts but I'll only have to do it once.

You might be able to pay to keep the email account open. However, as you say, moving all your accounts to a non-ISP email address gives you a lot more freedom later on.

I was told 20yrs ago to change my email to a non-ISP and decided to ignore the advice

My contract ends on 30th April. Is there a way of avoiding getting put through to their Indian call centre? I have tried 2 times to call them and each time I can't understand what the fk they are saying. The first time I got cut off. I am amazed that a company like VM are still able to operate when they are so difficult to do repeat business with. How do you guys renew your contracts without accepting the auto-renewal price? I only require VM 125 broadband and telephone calls. thanks

You can message direct via 07305 327112, the bot will respond and go through ID etc. and eventually put you on to a pseudo-human
Great stuff - thank you! However I'm assuming the 'best' renewal deals still require you to cancel and then wait for the "please don't leave us" phone call?
deggles said:
Probably. I did that last year - gave the 30 days notice to cancel and they phoned me back a week later with a too-good-to-refuse offer. This year we actually got a decent renewal deal through the online ‘My Virgin Media’ portal - clicked through saying ‘no thank you’ until a final offer which was £27/month (vs. £41 offered over the phone).
Ok that's good to know i'll try that thanks Gassing Station | Computers, Gadgets & Stuff | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
