They used the term "its about changes you made to your package" Ignoring the "carry on" innuendo I said it was inconveniemt to talk. They did not display caller ID

Well - it's bit of a coincidence but since I started the thread a week ago by my broadband speed has plummeted.
I was paying for 100mbps and getting 45-50mpbs. Now I am getting 15-20mbps but often as low as 2-3mpbs!!
I called them to log a fault and was told that it is due to a high take up of Virgin in the area and as such the box outside is overloaded. It will be resolved no sooner than the end of March!! They will offer me a discount of a tenner or so a month until it is resolved.
In terms of renewal the best they can offer is 45 a month for the same deal, down from 54. I have to just wait and see if I get a phone call.Blast.

Funny thing that my reduction for poor service was over £14 for January I was paying for 100mbps and getting 45-50mpbs. Now I am getting 15-20mbps but often as low as 2-3mpbs!!

Yes. Up to 100mbs I would expect more than 50mpbs otherwise I would be on their up to 50mbps tariff. Not the 7mbps I was receiving yesterday.Has anyone received any counter offers? For those people not renewing with Virgin who are you going for?
The best new deals look to be Virgin but I am not allowed to have those!

Nothing yet, only 2 emails confirming the cancellation and explaining what happens next. Has anyone received any counter offers? For those people not renewing with Virgin who are you going for?

Well, 4 days after giving notice to cancel, I've just had a phonecall and have signed up for another 12 months.
- 150mbps (which we may or may not be able to get!)
-Lower TV package. We will get fewer channels but they said that 86% of our viewing is on freeview channels anyway. Not concerned about this at all.
- new router.
- same phone deal
£35 a month. I'm sure some have got better deals but for the small amount of hassle I am happy with ~£20 a month saving. It has been worth the effort.

On the phone to them on hold as we speak...
Tried once already and said my call would would be answered in 15 min - they cut meoff after 15 mins..
Going to cancel - called up last month to do the same and they gave me 2 wk offers and even said they wouldn't provide the new hub as the old one is better. I had to cut the call short so didn't get to finish the call

My contact is up next month, I'm paying £120 a month now (Big Kahuna, Sports, 200MB Fibre, Tivo Box, Extra box & phone).
I've found Sky are doing a deal for about £75 with a Sky Q box and 40MB fibre. Is it pushing it to expect Virgin to come down to a similar price on retention?
Just to update the offered £77 per month for 6 months then up to £89. An improvement but still pricey, have got a month and half left on the contract.

Got a call yesterday. They will pay the line rental saver. That means effectively they have given me £196.
I am happy enough. It puts me in the ball park of what I would get signing up new with plusnet. The plusnet thing didn't give me any TV I don't have loads of TV channels its probably just their version of freeview with a few extras added on. Some more +1Hours 's and the like. It's handy to have as I can record stuff with their Tivo box whilst watching something else on the TV such as a DVD or whatever. I didn't feel the need for any higher speeds. So I sort of get that they have done a reasonable deal. The line saver that I paid for finished in December so Januarys bill pushed it back up when I had to pay the "real" amount.
Oh I am now getting "free" calls to landlines and mobiles anytime. Instead of just to landlines. That might save some costs though probably not much as I have a good mobile deal.
I'm quite pragmatic about stuff and all in all I'm quite happy really.

They wouldn't do a retention without line rental so I went over to Vodafone broadband. It has been a revelation.
The download is comparable but the upload is around 1000% more, yes 10 times! Then there is the fact I've now started to watch tv via Digital. The picture quality is amazing compared to the compressed crap virgin push down their infrastructure.
A friend renegotiated staying with them and got the new v6 box, broadband etc for I think £30 a month.
I wont be going back. Turns out my old Sky dish was still lined up nicely so I get Freesat too. Not bad.

Anyone done a retention deal for just the broadband? (without line rental), if so what price did you get to? As wondering if worth calling them up.
I cancelled and got a call of 4 days after..Got rid of the line rental and now paying 35 pcm for just broadband - 200mb connection.
If wanted to keep line rental it would have been 41 pcm..
Previously was paying 53 pcm for broadband and line rental.
Also got them to throw in the new router for free.

Good thing I've come across this thread as over the last few days I've been considering a change in our home broadband/TV etc. We have ended up with a Sky and a VM subscription and together it's over £120 a month.
I did look at moving all services to one supplier, so might give them a call over the weekend and see what they can do. Will report back here
