About as pointless and complicated a solution as I've ever seen.

Smaller diameter wheels, taller sidewall tyres. Done.

Although it will never happen because stupid customers will always want the most mahoosive alloys and skinny tyres on their ride.
I think this has less to do with the road and more to do with the quality of alloys. I have had wheel ranging in size from 18s right through to 22s and I've found even at a 30 profile if its a strong wheel it will be fine. BMW in particular and now mercedes make some right shocking quality wheels made of chocolate.
I would 100% say they are not fit for purpose for UK roads but they will use the pathetic excuse of UK roads being bad but I don't buy it.
