the book on my car is fully stamped up bar one service which i have invoiced from a BMW dealer (i guess the owner forgot to take the service booklet to the dealer...?) and i was wondering....

is there a way i could get copies of all the old invoices some how, or at least find out exactly what was done at each service? anyone on here got any ideas (i've only just thought about it really so not tried phoning my local dealer).

unless anyone on here could help me? wink

thanks chaps!

Ross.

Do you actually get an email or a letter in the post from that service or just verbal?

My car's had loads of visits to dealers but I don't have invoices and I guess it wasn't just a service each time! Would be interested to know of any extra work that was carried out.

If you are looking for the 'bold' above save your money, do not call the premium rate number as they will only inform you of the dealer visits not the exact reason for the visit and any outcome of the visit, the only way to get exactly what was done at each visit is to phone each dealer and ask them, they should all give you the info, some will forward on the details if you ask, some will not siting Data Protection as the reason.

So am I hehe

I don't know whether it's going to be "the car came to the dealers on this date" or "it came in on this date, had this done at this price" though.

I'd love to know what it had done but if only the former is available I'm still very grateful to m3charlie for taking the time to look it up for me.

Gotta love ph, some great people on here biggrin

Got an email back with plenty of information.

For the first few years it listed any work it had under warranty (i.e. What the dealer did) as well as the date and mileage.

Later on it the cars life it just says when it came to the dealer and what the mileage was. The good news was it appears my car was still getting warranty work on 2009 suggesting it must have a full service history. It's been stamped since then too often course.

Really appreciate that, it's given me information on a few things the car had done which I had no clue about.

Thanks again to charlie!

just looking back on this again, some of the info from charlie states "used car warranty" and not what is was for, but is DOES say the dealer visited.

if i were to phone the dealers, what are the odds they'll let me know exactly what was done, preferably with some paper work being sent my way too? this goes for the work even stated in the history Charlie gave me. the more paper work i can get the better.

i'm anal like that when it comes to history hehe

never does any harm and likely increases the value of the car a little bit

If you ask nicely they may provide details, for a printout I'd guess you need to pitch up in person and be utterly charming smile

just phoned the "last" dealer it visited for warranty work - they claim they aren't allowed to send me the invoices (annoyingly!!) but they told me briefly what was done on its 3 visits.

interesting to know - it MAY help when it comes to sell....have no actual proof of the work done other than a typed document, however, all it would take for prospective buyers to do is to phone that dealer and confirm which they can do....

thanks again charlie for the document, it's a really big help. going to try to phone all the other dealers now to see what i can find out.

it had 3 visits to one dealer between 20 and 25k miles ago for a brake pump (??? what's that??), a NSR coil spring (interesting....i had to replace this shock 5k miles ago) and some bushes.

next dealer busy but will call back later.

going to take a while but hopefully worth it biggrin

When I bought mine it had a fully stamped book but no receipts or other paperwork. I phoned the servicing dealer and they were very helpful, but it fell short of actual assistance! In fairness, they were happy to discuss all work carried out over the phone but would not send copies due to 'data protection'. Seemed pretty weak to me but there we go. At least the book was stamped, but I like a folder full of paperwork.

Hawking the missus' Z4 around some BMW dealers today the sales guy pulled up this screen, which I snapped! This is the service history that BMW can see, the details of what has been done is only known by the dealer that did the work, according to him. It only lists mileage, date and which dealer, or if like ruddy Stratstone you don't put the mileage on, not even that!
