By VOSA,The Ministry ,the Police or as i call all of them The Feds ?

I found a piece of paper listing where and when i have been stopped for a roadside

check .

In about 14 years of driving trucks i have been stopped 9 times plus also once

before that whilst driving a Luton.

So how often have you been stopped ?

Have they ever found something wrong with the truck, your hours or overweight ?

To start off i was stopped on the M6 in 1999 in a 7.5 with a very overweight front axle.

I was fined £400 plus £87 costs

Over to you.

Personally, never. Though I have only been driving a year so unsurprising really! In other people's cars, once. Mate was picking me up from town and got tailed a couple of miles down the road by a police van, pulled cos they thought he was drunk. 'Swerving all over the road' was the words used. Turns out he hadn't had a drop to drink in about a week so therefore I conclude he is just a ste driver biggrin

over here not to bad to be honest.
in 20 years, i think if memory serves me right, twice by the police, and once by vosa. 1 of these occasions i gained 3 points, but i was at fault, and have learned my lesson.
over the water, lost count really, sooooo many times, the french are the biggest culprit, followed by the germans and then the spanish. a mix of both police and customs, but thankfully every single time, all my tachos, paperwork, load etc, were in order smile

In the last twenty years once, on the A64 near York not a road side pull in operation ,plod in a Volvo chased me for five miles in heavy traffic. It was amusing watching him getting balked by slow traffic I think the bugger would have followed me home and up my drive. Any way he finally caught up and gave me the blues, the biggest laugh was the little fellow with him in a grease covered jacket could not fit his huge flash light under my car to check the tyres . fking priceless cool

25-30 times . Mostly whilst on the M6 in an unmarked van . I was overweight on one of those occasions but for some reason nothing ever came of it .

Have driven some nice cars over the years and only had a few stops in those

3 times in 7 years.

First time I passed a police car giving way to me at a roundabout as I came off a dual carriage way and joked to my friend saying 'i have been driving exactly 1 year tommorrow and never been pulled over' que the blues and twos for a random check.

2nd i got stopped for doing 87 on the same dual cariage way by an unmarked car ad he gave me a hell of a bking but let me off! Nice guy!

3rd another random stop check as it was in the middle of newcastle on a saturday night at 3am and was a random stop for drink drivers but all was clear.

I did however get 3 points from a scamera van coming in to a 30 from an NSL and didnt slow down quick enough. They come off in aug though.

Not been stopped yet in the 3 years I've been driving (17-20). Bit surprised as most of my friends have been stopped at least once.

Won't complain!

Never in 6 years of having a truck licence.

I used to get pulled over for a pastime when I had a 106 though. I eventually put in a complaint at the local plod shop for vindictiveness. They soon stopped. smile

Lost count years ago, been stopped on the bike, in the car, in the truck and i've even been stopped on my boat!!
Been GV9'd twice, loose wheelnuts and a diesel leak, but the best pull i ever got was on my moped. At 16 you're bulletproof, and i'd got bored and learned to ride backwards, i could turn round in motion but i had to stop to get back, saw the police car following me quite clearly tho....... smile

When I was young with motorbikes etc - loads.

First couple of cars that I used to drive like a dhead - loads.

Since 'growing up' and not being a dhead - strangely not at all....funny that!

I guess my driving style has 'matured' into something that the Police would describe as 'careful' and 'to enhance the chance of a long life'!

Worked for a real cowboy a few years ago who flagged red with visa, so loads and loads of times, worst was vosa at felixstowe dock, kept me 2 hours, much more scary than the monkeys on the side of the road.

This worries me slightly as i am the only driver who does walkaround checks every

morning and when a colleague gets stopped for that bulb out 5 minutes from the yard

all the fleet will be marked to be stopped.

I work with some of the biggest muppets ever.

3 are close to retirement ,so why would they care?furious

I always thought that it was vehicles rather than operators who were traffic lighted?

I was stopped when I innocently drove past a weighbridge near the M1 at Tankersley. I was temporarily prohibited for two loose wheel nuts. No fine or further action as Id checked all of the nuts that morning. It transpired that the vehicle had two damaged studs on one steer, hence their coming loose.

Last time I was driving for a living,I worked for a firm that picked up dead farm carcases,
I had to take 2 sheep heads to Sherwsbury and got stopped by VSO for a check, and they found the rear brake lights not working, so I thought a fuse, but I wasn't allowed to change it myself,so had to wait for a trained fitter to change it for me.

Cool I thought, just ring around locally ,no chance ,none of the local garages would come and
assist, because of the smell of the lorry, although it was clean.

I had a 5 hour wait for the fitter to come from the depot and fix a bloody fuse.

Needless to say I wasn't in that job very long.

47? I've been stopped twice in 16 years in a car. Which isn't actually what this thread is about but anyway.

You might have to expand that Chris...are you, you know, a little ethnic looking mate?

If so, then you're right there - ridiculous waste of Police resources!
