My wife spotted the other day no reversing lights on the Griff. Unlikely to be both bulbs and they look OK.

What are the next most likely culprits - reversing light switch somewhere on (early) gearbox I guess or the feed - is this a shared fuse ?

Any pointers helpful as getting under the car is a PITA but can be done if needs be.

thanks

I had a similar problem with my car; the reversing lights sometimes worked and sometimes they didn't. Problem was the switch on the gearbox - it unscrews so easy to change and no adjustment required - but my car has the T5 box so not sure if this is any help to you if you have the earlier box. No doubt a precat expert will be along to help soon though.

Yep, all probability the switch. Mine was a bit sticky until someone advised not to leave the Griff parked in reverse, now I leave it in 1st & seems to be all ok now.

Alex, I've got the same problem on the 'Green Meanie'. I reckon it's the switch. The bible implies it's probably the switch. I've checked the 10A fuse and it's not that.

I've got the 500 with the T5 gearbox and unfortunately the switch is easy to see but stuck up behind the exhaust and the cable is tied to the chassis out of reach so I can't test it. MOT tomorrow and Googled that you don't need reversing light for MOT. When I get it back, hopefully with a new MOT I'll tackle this one by dropping the exhaust and then it should be fairly easy. As usual with electrical problems I start at one end and work backwards (or forwards)

From your thread it sounds like you've got the Rover box so I don't know where the switch might be on that.

I'll let you know how it goes. Usual offer from before, if you want to put it on my lift you are welcome.

If you have the LT77 box the reversing light switch is a simple press to engage switch sat under a plate which is both your reversing gate and the switch activator.
It's easy to see and fairly easy to replace, though not cheap, but can be a sod to set up correctly.
There is a land rover version of the switch but be careful if you go down that route as one version of the Landy one is a long throw which doesn't work well with the gate mechanism of the TVR box, but you can get one which does work.

It may not be the switch, but a damaged or rust/crud covered connector.
They connections are tied to the chassis by the box and though they are well protected by the engine and exhaust can get rusty.
I think you need to drop the back exhaust section to see it all, but everything is then easy to check with a good torch.

It wasn't the switch. Dropped the exhaust, snipped the ties holding the connector and wires to the chassis and tested the circuit. The switch is fine. I reconnected the wires and it works fine now. Must have been a corroded contact in the connector.

The other good news is the 'Meanie' passed its MOT without any advisories (not that I was expecting any but you never know...!). Pete
