I was speaking to a chap this afternoon who is looking to start driving a transit sized van with a local company, he has no HGV licence

However he does have C1 Entitlement as he passed his test prior to 1997.

My question is, will he need to do his CPC to drive a 7.5 tonner, as it's technically being driven on his car licence?

Amy vehicle over 3.5 tonnes driven commercially needs driver cpc unless an exemption applies

Be it a free pre 1997 LGV C1 or not makes no difference

Max 3 reduced daily rests BETWEEN WEEKLY RESTS not anything to do with the fixed week

Every time you have at least 24 hours rest it resets the 3 max reduced daily rest rule

Hijacking your hijack:

Unless you have been nighting out then you shouldn't have taken three reduced rests in a week. The operator is at fault there of course, not you. It isn't there for them to plan into when youre going home at night - its purpose is to allow a driver who is staying out to get on promptly after eight hours rest, because theyd be having to kill three hours otherwise.
