Like I've never seen before in Riddlesden just now, bloody huge! Set off all the car alarms, I really hope the cars aren't all dented.

Odd weather...

I'll stick with this fantastic lightning show we're having over Cookridge.

Thought our roof was coming in last night!

Just been out to check on our cars and we seem to have got off without any damage, some of the neighbours aren't so lucky.

Arse, just given our cars a more thorough check and they've both been hit, curse

Up in the Dales (between Burnsall and Bolton Abbey) we had the best storm last night that I've ever seen outside of south east Asia.

2 cells brewed up to either side of us, one to our west over Grassington and one south east over Skipton/Silsden.

We had near enough 90 minutes of solid thunder - not a break. My lightning strike app said there were 1033 lightning strikes in my area over 120 minutes. While my wife was getting ready for bed I counted 81 strikes in the time it took her to brush her teeth.

I was woken at about 0200 by hailstones the size of marbles bouncing off the house. I accidentally left a cardboard box of stuff on the table in the back garden and it looks like someone has put a 12 bore round through it.

Wish it was like that every night smile

I could see all the lightning as I looked up the valley (towards Silsden) the sky was lit up as by a military barrage, then torrential rain, I was watching it by the door and all of a sudden the barrage became real.

Ssome were an inch across as they smashed down I had to abandon the vigil as they were coming into the house, I wouldn't have wanted to have been hit by them.

My car has dents all over the bonnet, roof and boot.frown

Really?! Holy fk that's terrible news. I'd be absolutely gutted. Any pics?

I'm not far from the airport and didn't get any rain or "weather" here last night. Heard some thunder rumbling about in the distance but nothing else. As the crow flies Riddlesden and Silsden are not that far from here, just over the other side of Ilkley Moor. Amazing how the weather can be so completely different over a few miles. eek

No hail stones in my part of Halifax, but the light show was fantastic.

Can we have more please

I was in Leeds arena last night and the flashes were just starting as we left at about 22:30. By the time we got home to Bingley an hour later it was in full fling - constant lightning and thunder - and remained that way for a good 90 minutes. We also had a short and torrential downpour of very warm rain. No hail though.

Just had a mate of mine on the phone who's coming over the 62 from Manchester and said it's hail-stoning like fk over the tops. Looking at raintoday radar screen there's another storm on the way across in the next hour or so - might be prudent to move your motors undercover if it's going to be a repeat of last night! eek

Not sure they will photograph very well, the bonnet has about 20 5p size dimples on it, the roof has 5 or 10 and the boot and the tops of the doors.

It's only 5 months old!

They will photograph just fine if you're not hamfisted and the light is decent.

I am and it's over cast, trust me they are there, if it's sunny tomorrow I'll try and capture them.

Thing is I don't want my new M5 taken to some crappy insurance body shop for filler and a mop, lets see what they say in the morning.

what an absolute f****r! The size of some of those hailstones is ridiculous though.

I wonder if theyd be able to use one of the paintelss dent removal guys. I have a friend with his own business and its really quite impressive some of the imperfections they can get out. I know he gets a lot of main dealer work so you might be ok.

Had the same thing happen to me back in 1981 while working in Salford. Similar sized hail stones left my car looking like someone had been hitting it with a ball hammer. Fortunately the car I had back then was a bit of a snotter anyway, so it wasn't too much of an issue.

It's probably worth having a really good dent man examine the car, it's possible to glue a peg onto the panel and pull out small dents from places where you can't access the back to push them out. Andy at Specialist Dents in Malton has done this on a couple of dents I've had and they have been completely removed. Probably cheaper then repainting the bonnet, roof and boot too.

I wonder how carbon fibre panels would go on in conditions like these?

Yes, but no golfball hailstones thankyou, I think we had a lucky escape. We were sat out post BBQ, watching the electric storm, with no idea that was happening.
