I fancy a van, something I can put my mtb in back and go off, maybe sleep as a day van, nothing fancy a sleeping bag in back. I would like the creature comforts for daily driving . Maybe a MPV?

Has to be a diesel as I do about 1500 miles a month. I would like the tdi 130 engine as I have it in my Octavia and it is great but something reliable would be okay.

Another option is a second car but would have to be lowish tax but can be petrol or diesel.

Any ideas?

Old VW Sharan? Remove the seats and there should be enough space to kip in the back...

I use a Citroen Berlingo (car version) for pretty much the same thing apart from sleeping in. It's cheap to keep and very spacious once you take out one of the back seats so the bike can go in without needing to dismantle anything.

Bigger stuff like the Ford galaxy/sharan/alhambra would be easier and are likely to be more comfortable but more expensive to run.

The galaxy would make a great van without seats in the back and with the windows tinted as they're pretty big. I was thinking about getting one when the Citroen dies, but will probably be going back to 4x4s.

I would stay away from cheap transits etc as they tend to get worked to death.

I have run an 04 Fiat Doblo 1.9 JTD for the last 4 years or so as a second car.
Cheap to run gets 60mpg with no love or mechanical sympathy, just short of 100k miles now with no rust, went through mot with no advisories.
Comfy for long drives and plenty of room seats 5 adults without any bother with a decent boot and loads of storage space.

Uglier than an ugly thing, but good seating position, high visibility in all seats means friends who normally get car sick never have a complaint in it.
This, Berlingo, Kangoo, or some of the other small vans with windows would be ideal.

I have been looking on eBay, but will wait. I fancy building some sort of pod system that mean the car/can/mpv can be left standard and the pod fits in ready to go and pulls out, maybe some mounting points using existing points. Would be great with super high economy, I was looking at a 206 SW 1.4 hdi.
