If I was looking at buying a 2020-21 Mini Cooper 3dr, petrol, probably 1.5 but maybe 2.0, are the engines now reliable?

I remember the earlier ones that coked up, were generally a bit cr4p, & some of the ones that came a bit later that had chocolate timing chains & guides but am unsure what the general consensus is about the 2020-21 years.

Any brief comments welcome. Thanks.

I think the BMW 2.0 and 1.5 engines introduced to the Mini circa 2015 are pretty rock solid. Don’t forget they are in many BMW series also including the 1.5 in the i8. The 3 litre engine is basically the same architecture as 1.5/2.0 just an extra 2/3 cylinders.
The 2.0 JCW has strengthened con rods etc.
In the JCW though I always use 97-99 Ron petrol

2.00 is your best bet as from factory it has a low state of tune, almost same bhp as earlier generation of minis
Used 1.6

Different turbo or internals for the gp3 mini but a solid 300bhp from that engine still same block
