At least if people are allowed to list their services then next time someone needs a service they might just go "Aha, I remember someone on PH offering that service".
Also gives businesses a chance to show off their warez and make people aware of of something they previously didn't know was available.

How about looking for jobs? Would that be acceptable to post here - for example I know myself and a few other Phers are about to graduate and I am sure that there will be others who are looking for a new direction etc.
Can we post what we do, what we are looking for etc etc to see if any fellow PHers want to recruit us or know of any positions?

My take on it...
I think the PULL method is best
Individuals looking for work is cool too (already happens a fair bit on General Gassing)
I don't think people should PUSH their businesses hard eg Advertising or else Ted's advertisers might as well just post in here instead.
Maybe ted could put a search field on the occupation profile field for us to look for services eg "Web designer" or whatever.

The issue of advertising is more pertinent in other forums where I don't want those that are paying for exposure feeling hard done by those who take the piss.

If this forum gets popular enough then there may be businesses that want to advertise their services here. That's fine. They can pay for them and the status quo is maintained.

Great idea....I'm feeling embarassed asking for people's thoughts on various IT topics under general gassing.
I guess I just don't know enough, so I end up asking lots of questions. Doesn't help that I'm also an auditor (paid to ask questions
