Hey guys...

I just inherited my fiance's 1990 fiesta popular plus... rusted to hell and a dying clutch... It ain't going to pass its MOT in july, so its just a cheap run-a-round for me to run into the ground as its my first car since passing my test over a year ago.

Thing is, since the infamous ex-boyfriend with the bright yellow mini, I have wanted one of the little critters, and after getting an insurance quote for something along the lines of a mini thou, I was pleasantly surprised...

Does anyone know of where (preferably in the north-east) there is a little mini looking for a good home...? I know its a tall order, but preferably one that is cheap AND rust free so I don't have to sweet talk dad into repairing for me

The Mini Place in Sunderland has a few examples outside his garage - I've been a few times & they're in good nick. I would stay away from privately advertised minis if you don't know much about them, you might get stung! try |www.plminis.com if you don't mind travelling to yorkshire - they specialise in thous in good condition for people looking for their first mini

You're gonna have trouble finding a rust free one! I am not sure they still exist!

One of the regulars here, Tom, is from the North East so he may be along at some point with some recommendations up that way.

There are no shortage of Minis around though, your best bet for good condition and good price is probably going to be from an elderly couple/person who just have no need for the car anymore. The bargains are out there if you look hard enough.

I have heard of the one in sunderland, I think my ex went there for parts. I saw one advertised recently for £300, absolutely gorgeous, but when I phoned about it, it had gone instantly!

You’ll get more for your money privately, do you not know of your ex-boyfriends friends that could take a look over it for you?

My ex has no friends!! No, seriously!

My dad and my fiance are pretty good with cars and know what they are talking about, but my dad isn't overly keen on the idea of a mini, due to the age and condition of most of them.

I had a look on ebay, but the problem with them is you have to view them before you bid, or take the risk of buying a heap without viewing it, and most on there seem to be miles away!

I will get in touch with the 'piston broke' mini club that my ex was in, see if they can help

where are you in the north east? the north east mini club meets on a thurs evening at the 3 horseshoes pub (erm I think that's the name!) just next to the aircraft museum (on the nissan site) in Washington - it's just off the A19/A1231 and they'll definitely be able to put you in touch with a nice mini - there are always loads on sale!

The club route is probably best, but you could also have a look on www.miniclassic.co.uk they normally have lots for sale on there, I bought mine through there and its a nice cheap runabout.

Funnily enough, I bumped into one of your ex's in the pub on Saturday night (the one who looked about 12? Well he still does... ) He was with a FAAAAAT lass... WHAT a boiler.
