My manifold bolts keep losening themselves! Every 200 miles or so they all need tightening up again. This is casusing me to replace the gaskets a lot. There has to be a way I can stop them doing this (aside from loctite). They are SS manifolds with brand new ARP bolts. I have had to do it so often I can now get to all the bolts and get the manifolds off without having to jack the car up!!

Any ideas?

Didn't someone post something about trick washers?

Cheers Clive

What sizes did you get and were they expensive?

from memory, 3/8", or it could have been 10mm, and I think it was about £9 for 20 washers, not cheap but they do the job, so you don`t regret spending the money if it means you don`t have to keep tightening the bolts all the time.

Yep, they work perfect. Had them on my car since last year, not had any loose bolts anymore.

Anyone suggest a supplier who doesn't charge a billion pounds postage for a tiny order?

When these cars were built how did they get over the problem TVR did'nt use those or any locking washers.

I emailed our Dutch importer and told the salesman (a fellow car enthusiast) that it was for a TVR Griffith. They practically gave me all the washers i needed for my manifolds.

There's a lot of exhaust weight hanging on the manifolds, i think an engine mounted support bracket to the y peice would help to balance the heavy lever arm of the cats and y peice. One for Clive perhaps.

My pre-cat has the exhaust bolted to the bellhousing. don't the other cars have this?

My bleeding exhaust manifolds are leaking again - or at least I hope they are or the cam is shagged!
I'd be interested in some of these lock thingies, is it worth a bulk buy?

£23.60 for twenty stainless inc P&P. Just hoping they sit flat to the flanges on those ACT/JP manifolds of mine; with an OD of 16.6mm I'm not so sure . . . we'll see.

Ask Clive to stock them... I just happen to know he is also looking into some manifold bolts even better than the ARP ones which will particularly suit all your metric tools wink He has recently been getting plenty of experience (re)fitting manifolds hehe

I use spring washers and have never had a problem. Use some copperslip on the bolts so that they won't sieze... use spring washers on the bolts and get them tight. End of problem.

Do you have to know what size washers you need and if so what did you order for the 3/8 ARP bolts 2Munkys ?
I wouldn't mind ordering some of these today if I get the chance so I can get the manifold off and replace the gasket at the weekend. I bet its the nearside again rolleyes
